The following blog was written by Maximillion: Technology has completely changed how we work, travel, socialize, and even what we do in our free time. We humans depend on technology a lot and it has made almost all of our routine activities and tasks easier. The UK event management industry is growing at a very high pace and there are a lot of areas where technology already plays a vital role yet there is a lot more room for it to revolutionize the industry. About 57% of the agencies plan their events and meeting using an event or meeting management software. It does not just help planners in ..read more

I’m travelling around the coastline of the UK this August. After visiting all the States of America and every Prefecture of Japan, it is now time to travel the entire coastline of the United Kingdom.  It is also a great excuse to visit events and festivals in villages, towns and cities on our trip. As you can imagine it takes a bit of organising when planning such a trip. After all, we will be on the road for 5 weeks. Besides planning the trip itself, where to eat, what to eat, where to sleep, and what to do, we decided to also keep an eye out for the different events and festivals that are h ..read more

Being a Personal Licence Holder in the events industry

Since 2012 I am a Personal Licence Holder. Having such a licence means that I can “make sales of alcohol or authorise the sale of alcohol under a Premises Licence granted under the Licensing Act 2003 throughout England and Wales”. At least, that’s what it says on my licence. You need a licence when you want to sell alcohol, or authorise the sale of alcohol, at licensed premises. Licensed premises, such as bars, restaurants, events and festivals, need a Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS). And to become one of those you need to be a Personal Licence Holder. So you can work behind the bar with ..read more

Three years from now the Olympic Games will take place in Tokyo. In case you are wondering why there is a picture of a building site above this bog… that will be the Olympic Stadium. I took the picture in June 2017. Will it be ready, I hear you think? Well, this is Japan, a country where everything runs like clockwork. I am sure it’ll be finished in time. The new stadium is said to cost £1.2 billion but as it is the Olympics the cost are likely to go up a little further. When Tokyo was awarded the Olympic Games in 2013 the estimated budget was £5.2 billion. In June 2017 they adjusted the budg ..read more

I went to Tokyo Disneyland. It was on my bucket list and as it is my last time in this grand city the decision to go was an easy one. Already on the train there I spotted several people dressed complete in Disney gear. It made me wonder why people dress up like that. It’s not just Disney. You see the same at events like ComicCon and also at festivals. People like to go out of their way to dress up. Not me. I’m a bit boring when it comes to this kind of stuff. I’m up for Santa Con but that’s about it. Dressing up really is “a thing”. Escapism it is called. Escapism is, according to the diction ..read more

When do you need a Temporary Event Notice?
The Event Tutor Blog
by Jarno Stegeman
5y ago
Temporary Event Notices, or TENs, are needed when you want to organise a ‘licensable activity’. Those activities are selling alcohol, supplying alcohol in a members’ club, providing regulated entertainment, and providing late night refreshments. Read my blog about The Licensing Act for more information about these activities. When do you need a TEN? When I organised my event, Zhivago Theater, we discussed the idea of selling alcohol at the theatre prior to the show. The theatre had a Premises Licence but this did not cover the sale of alcohol. I am a Personal Licence Holder but in order for m ..read more
