I live in Stockholm. We have a respectable opera house called the Royal Swedish Opera. I saw my first opera there (Carmen) in 2011 and that had me hooked on opera. I started watching other operas on YouTube to explore the opera phenomenon. I have later gotten to watch some of those operas live. I often listen to opera on YouTube while doing other things. It’s been a few years since my degree in opera so I can’t contact my voice teacher, and came here for some expert advice that only classical singers can give! I’m singing for my best friend’s wedding mass, in three days, and just came down with a gnarly cold. Hi! I’m not a newcomer to classical music, but I’m pretty fresh into singing and opera, and my teacher reckons I may be a contralto. Is there any good repertoire out there? I know contraltos are supposed to be pretty rare so it’s tricky to find music that’s not too tough for a newby like me.
