Shades of Grey: VOLTERRA REFLECTIONS

Thanks to the guys in Volterra, currently enjoying the reality capture workshop. There are several of us out here, wishing we could have joined and appreciating the posts you are sharing. I was there in 2018 and particularly interested in the construction details that had evolved in the local vernacular. Chimneys sprout across the rooftops, some for fireplaces some for woodstoves. Compared to England there is great concern to protect the opening from rainfall. Is this just a quirk? Perhaps it reflects the number of days in the year when fires actually burn. A strong upward draft will deflec ..read more

Point Cloud Settings In Project Template
Revit Forum

VG settings to control point clouds in views/view templates are only available once a point cloud has been loaded in. We use a lot of view templates and on the less common jobs where we import a point cloud it defaults to be turned on in all view templates. Question for those also employing a lot of view templates - have you loaded in a blank point cloud to set up point clouds in all view templates similar to a placeholder link, or are you relying on creating a point cloud workset in project that's off in all views by default? Is anyone saving a blank workshared project and opening detached c ..read more

Four churches in Mutare. Pics from 2003. Don't know why I didn't think of including these in my Revit churches series before, would make an interesting little group. I hope I get to see Mutare again one day. Full of nostalgia for my previous trips, spread across a 23 year residence in Zimbabwe. Becoming a citizen, raising a family, watching things go wrong. Hyperinflation can only really be understood through first hand experience. I clung onto that citizenship and the dream of retiring to sit under my mango tree. Sometimes you just have to let go of your dreams and accept the reality of w ..read more

Shades of Grey: THE WEEK THAT WAS

Linked In posts for Early October 2022. Playing guitar on my balcony, starting a painting project, looking back at my one and only visit to Portugal, and the “ancient past” of life in Zimbabwe. There is a certain severity in the architecture of Porto. Partly the nature of the local stone, partly the maritime climate blowing up river from the Atlantic. But this is tempered by a somewhat idiomatic sense of the baroque. What does that word mean? Like all words it means what thousands of people have coopted it to mean in a variety of contexts. Meanings morph continuously. It implies a bending of ..read more

Good day. I need some help with a Revit Tank Model. I have created a model and loaded a custom Flange family into the tank family. Schedule nested families within a parent family
Revit Forum

I have a parent family of one table and 8 chairs. The table and chairs are nested family in the parent family. In my building project, I have this parent family populated in 14 areas. Each area has 20-40 parent families. I want to create a schedule for each of the areas with a count of chairs and tables. I was thinking to create a shared parameter in the table family, chair family, and in parent family. This shared parameter will tell Revit which area the tables and chairs are in. Is it the best way to do it? Or is there another way to do this? Thanks in advance ..read more

Hi everyone, I have an issue that Revit changes the line type of my earth section cut material under my building pad in section. You can see in the attached image that the lines of the earth pattern to both sides of the building pad under the base of my pool is light gray. Under the building pad itself the lines are black. Any one have any idea what's going on? Thanks G ..read more

While looking for a means to get section boxes to work in RFAs I found info on scope boxes, which I haven't really used. is there a good cliff notes version of how the scope box works and if you use them, can you explain when/how you use them to improve workflow? As for the Section box, please tell me if there is a way to use them in families. especially with the section box icon* where I can isolate the selected items into a 3D view with a section box slightly larger ..read more

Elevations Wireframe + Hidden Lines Issue
Revit Forum

I'm using Revit 2022 and working on elevations for a kitchen project and using an interior elevation template. However, I'm coming across issues with the South and East elevations being wireframes (showing cabinet shelving, sink, window components, etc.) while the North and West elevations are showing correctly with hidden lines. All of these elevations use the same template but show 2 different results. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've gone through several Revit gurus and cannot come up with a solution. Any help with this problem is greatly appreciated ..read more
