I’m posting early because I have an exciting afternoon ahead – it’s our NW reader meet-up and I’m so glad it’s here to bring light into January. So how’s your month going? Chilly isn’t it? I think I’d rather have it this way than just damp and grey though. There’s something special about this time of year when the earth seems to be sleeping until you look more closely and see the shoots starting to come through, signs that soon everything will begin again and good times lie ahead. As promised, it’s Midlife lately – a catch up today. We haven’t had one for a while so it includes a throwback t ..read more

Midlife beauty favourites and new discoveries

I’ve had a few reminders that I haven’t done a beauty post for a while so now feels like a good time. This month when we all feel a bit ‘peely wally’ as my Scots friends call it is a great one for refreshing beauty routines – and never forget the power of a free on counter makeover, it’s a great way of learning new techniques and finding products that work for you. Just pick a brand you already like and book in. As you know, I’m constantly testing products that are either sent to me by beauty PRs or that I read good things about and decide to try for myself. When it comes to any kind of skinc ..read more

4 learnings I’m taking from 2022

Something a bit different today because there’s no point in talking about clothes at the moment – we’re going to need an Ark up here soon if the rain doesn’t stop! Before I start though I just want to thank you for all of the encouraging comments and messages you sent after my Christmas post, they were so heartwarming to read and they helped my year of blogging to end on an especially happy note. So talking about learnings suggests something quite profound but that’s not what this is, it’s just that instead of viewing 2023 purely as a clean slate and facing firmly forwards, I spent a bit of t ..read more

So here we are with my final post of the year, wishing you a cosy Christmas. I don’t know about you but we’re limping towards it. We both came back from our week of work travel full of cold and I’m running on a single cylinder so I’m signing off earlier than planned. Before I go though, let’s have one last catch-up. I confess photos haven’t been on my mind so I’ve had to scrabble about to put this together but I’ve managed to get some from different people’s camera rolls. I’m just hoping they’re so raw that you’ll be able to feel you’re really with me! Wishing you a cosy Christmas -Newcast ..read more

Well I said I’d do a catch-up today and it shows how focused on Christmas prep I’ve been when I have photos and moments going all the way back to the end of October. As you know, I like this blog to be a reflection of a real midlife and while I’ve been busy getting everything ready for what will hopefully be a fun-filled Christmas, everyday stuff has been going on – as it always does. November, in particular, was a funny old month for us so here are moments going all the way from Halloween to buying the Christmas tree! Midlife lately – behind the scenes. Gifts for the hard to buy for

This is the last of my Christmas gift posts for 2022. I don’t think any of us are planning to go overboard on ‘stuff’ this year and it won’t be a bad thing if Christmas is recalibrated back to being more about a meaningful time with people we love than the madness of obligation that it’s become since we were children. So today I’ve pulled together some ideas for gifts for the hard to buy for. We all have people in our lives who have everything they want or need… and yet it’s still good to put a smile on their face on Christmas Day with a little something that shows that we know and care for ..read more

Hello, Happy Tuesday, I hope your week’s going well so far. I’m finding the gift edits harder than ever to put together this year because we all want every pound we spend to count. However, I’m continuing with my ‘everything must be either beautiful or useful’ mantra and here are a few ideas for thoughtful Christmas gifts for men that go beyond the usual socks and dad joke related stuff. And as I go along, you’ll probably be able to tell that I’ve been starting my Christmas shopping at the same time… Thoughtful Christmas Gifts For Men 2022 The last few times we’ve been out I’ve been surprise ..read more

Christmassy outfits that are not just for Christmas

As we’re getting into the swing of Christmas now, for my last Boden edit of the year it made sense to look at what we might wear when we’re in the mood to look festive. Every year, at the end of November ( for me anyway) there comes a morning where I suddenly want to move away from my autumn clothes and add a little touch of something extra to my outfits. And that’s what today’s post is going to be about, the little touches, because I’ve heard what most of you are saying in the comments – that you’re not buying full-on Christmas party outfits this year. So I’ve deliberately focused on piec ..read more
