Hi everyone! I am working on quantities for a large project and excel export take A LOT of time at the moment. I was wondering if there is an option to export just sums, not all the items to excel? For example - I have 124520 steel pipes and in quantification workbook I can see all them separately and a sum in the window above. I would like to export just this sum, not all the items. Can anyone help me out? submitted by /u/tym3000 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Gearing up to go from BIM Manager to VDC Director. What to ask for, what to expect?

Been setting myself up for a promotion and I’m about to ask for that along with a raise. Been a BIM Manager for 2.5 years and my role kinda naturally evolved from being involved in the nitty gritty to being involved with how my firm operates in the virtual world. Right now I’m taking on a lot. Everything from developing our learning management system, integration processes, SOPs, developing training, managing software, fixing project problems, improving and maintaining libraries, R&D, and being the only BIM Manager I still do the normal BIM Management stuff too. It’s a lot to deal with da ..read more

Ludicrously large BIM sample models

I'm doing some stress testing on some IFC related workflows, I'm wondering if anyone can point me to some freely available IFC / RVT / BIM models that are ridiculous in file size and complexity. I have the usual suspects such as those included with the BuildingSMART Sample repository, Westside Hospital, Snowden Samples from Revit, but I'd value anything else too. submitted by /u/earthquank [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Is there an efficient workflow for taking a Revit file and working with it in TwinMotion

Hey everyone, first time here. I have a workflow related question. This is about 4D construction sequencing, going from Revit to 3ds max (if necessary) and then to TwinMotion. Background: I'm being considered for a role creating 4D construction sequencing, among other things. I've got a few months to teach myself how to do 4D sequencing. This company uses Twin Motion for their construction sequencing. From what they've told me, they link the Revit file to 3ds max, and then link to Twin Motion. What I get stuck on while trying to learn sequencing is when I link or open a file from Revit in eit ..read more

When do you consider that a document needs a revision mark?

Hello everyone! I am an Architectural Technologist that works in an architecture studio. Recently we have been implementing the revision guidelines of the UK's National Annex of ISO 19650. I understood that everytime a document containting information about the project changed AND was distributed, a new revision mark was required. As I have been working on the information for the roofs in one project, I submitted a couple of documents (drawings from a BIM model) to a roof supplier (not a member of the design team) and as they changed, I added revision marks to the sheets circulated.
