Anyone who knows me, knows I’m the biggest fan of matcha. Nowadays you can have matcha in most spots that also serve specialty coffee, but the quality varies from great to, well, not so great.
When you travel you notice that matcha is not something you’ll necessarily find everywhere you go. But in Barcelona we’re pretty spoilt with good matcha, and we even have cafes that specialize in it. I’ve picked my five favorites for good matcha, and a couple of bonus tracks.

Sr. Brown is an anomaly, but in the best way possible. If I would live in the neighborhood (Sant Antoni, to be more precise), I might just hang out there every day.

This cafe is cool and stunning to look at. It could perfectly serve as a photo shoot location, but it’s here for you to enjoy and to hang out in. My favorite spot is in the back: when you visit you’ll understand why.
Sr. Brown is the brainchild of Miquel Coulibaly, a creative genius when it comes to experimental flavors. There is a deeper meaning behind most of his creations ..read more

It’s here, the Winter 2025 edition of new restaurants in Barcelona! Can you believe more than 140 new places have opened lately?! We have many, MANY new wine bars, Japanese sandos, experimental desserts and dessert tasting menus, vegan ramen and many more plant-based gems, gorgeous spaces, and unfortunately some closings, too. Time to start booking tables!
My Go-To List
Fugaz has something so attractive about it, and I am excited to go. The massive pile of butter is everything. On their profile it says “cosechado, producido y servido por nosotros” and I think that’s beautiful. Interesting dish ..read more

Sando Cafe Sando is colorful and playful little spot that you shouldn’t miss. This cute cafe in the Born serves specialty coffee, fun drinks, and home-made sandos in both sweet and savory versions.

You can drop by just for your caffeine kick, or you can order one of their tasty sandos on display at the counter. On my first visit I tried an avocado-mint-wasabi sando which I enjoyed (I had in fact seen a story of them and they caught my attention, so I waited until they had prepared a new batch as they were sold out when we arrived ..read more

Margarit is quite unlike anything else you can currently find in the Poble Sec neighborhood in Barcelona. Claiming that there’s an abundance of Greek restaurants in the city would be a lie, and Margarit is a welcome addition. And it has a modern touch, with beautiful distressed walls, and an open kitchen. It is quite hypnotic to watch the team work behind the kitchen counter.

Gallo Santo first opened in Gràcia, and became quickly hugely popular. Their concept of vegan Mexican food is solid and fun, and they nail it every time (read my review of Gallo Santo here). They opened a second location in Marina, and I was excited to check out their new spot where they also have introduced something new and interesting: a vegan weekend brunch!

Glug brings to the table what many a copy-and-paste kind of wine bar hasn’t been able to do: bring their own identity, look, and twist to the table. It’s playful, cute, but taking things seriously.

The bar is divided into tables (both standard ones and with tables with high chairs), and seats at the bar. My favorites are by the bar: they’re surprisingly spacious and you get to see all the action.

In terms of interior decoration Glug is minimalist but still fun and different. Little details ..read more

It might not always be easy to find great spots in the Born, but PetNat is definitely worthwhile! This very cozy wine bar is a treat for wine lovers, and a great spot to catch up with friends. They also have craft beer on tap, in case you’re not into wine but your friends are. Oh, and they have food, too, in case you get hungry.

Hermós, Bar de Peix is a surprising little gem inside a lively market in the Gràcia neighborhood. With just a few stools by a cozy bar right next to a fresh fish stand, it’s an unassuming spot that delivers a truly memorable experience. What might seem like a simple setup becomes a delicious, one-of-a kind meal with top-notch dishes.
