The second Ise Kadoya Tokyo taproom has been open a little while now but I’ve only just managed to make it there. The first branch is in Yaesu, so dead in the middle of salaryman territory. The second is on the 14th floor of the Takashimaya department store in Shinjuku (although strictly speaking it’s actually Shibuya if you go by the address). I’m not sure if salarymen who work in Shinjuku would head to the top floor of a department store after work so I don’t know if it’s normally busy. But on a Saturday evening in a time with increasing Corona numbers, there were quite a few free tables. I ..read more

A quick post today on a fairly newly opened bar in Shinsen, not far from Hiranoya. I was drawn in by the records and beer concept and although the music wasn’t really my style, (actually not at all my style if I’m being honest), I really enjoyed listening to the music that was being selected from the massive amount of records that were on display. Here’s what you need to know.
- Pretty small place on the second floor of a building on that main road with all the restaurants and bars that goes through Shinsen. The place is dominated by the shelves of records but there is a counter for five an ..read more

After visiting Ben’s Slop Shop (BSS), I moved on to the equally interestingly named P2B Haus. Plenty to consider in that name. If the previously mentioned BSS is a great place to pop in for a beer or two whilst shopping, P2B is probably somewhere you’d want to spend a bit more time and have a few drinks and some food. As I didn’t do this and only popped in for one drink, I can’t speak fully on the whole experience, but I certainly enjoyed it. Here’s what you need to know.
- Nice and comfortable interior with a counter for 5 and tables for about 20. Definitely more of a beer and food fe ..read more

It’s been a while since I went to any new places so I thought I’d take a trip to Kichijoji, go to some record shops and cross a couple of beer places off the list. Today’s post is on a place that is unsurprisingly pretty similar to a place I’ve already posted about on here. Ben’s Slop Shop is quite like The Slop Shop which you can read about here. Amazing writing and insight eh? As I like to keep myself to myself, I didn’t pry as to who Ben might be. Their Instagram mentions L’Oncle Ben, which I found quite intriguing and made me think it might previously have been a different but similar pla ..read more

A recent football game in Yokohama gave me the opportunity to pop in to a new place for me. I have so many places on my backlog in Yokohama that I could have chosen many options, but I always like to prioritise brewpubs and breweries over pubs so I plumped for the enjoyably named Ergo Bibamus. Perhaps I'll manage to get round to some of the others soon. I guess a Yokohama new(ish) place pub crawl would be a good idea to tick some places off. Anyway, here's what you need to know about Ergo Bibamus.
- Fairly compact place with the small brewery off to the left at the entrance and then a narrow ..read more

Was quite surprised to find I had never done a round up post for Fukuoka. Was going to add a few places and instead found that I need to start from scratch. Oh well, here it is. There are a lot of places to drink in Fukuoka as you'd expect for a city of its size. I should point out though that lots of places in Kyushu allow smoking and lots are standing bars too, so you might want to choose carefully before you commit. I'll mention the smoking thing where I can remember it. For the places that I haven't been to for a while, I'll keep it brief as I think it's better to not write stuff that isn ..read more

Finally a proper blog post on here after loads of digest posts! Ermmmm, maybe not. This is a Craft Beer Market so it's not exactly exciting new information. Please check out the other posts of Craft Beer Markets here to get an idea of what to expect if you've never been to one before. To sum up for you if you can't be bothered to click the link, cheap beers with some exciting stuff mixed in with some less exciting stuff. Prices are a little higher for rare stuff or some imported stuff but still cheaper than a lot of places. The beer list complete with prices is on their website for every bra ..read more

There's not much to mention in this round up. It's quite hard to find bars in Fukushima prefecture or Fukushima city that sell anything more than the odd craft beer. But there are a few breweries in the prefectural capital city so if you're in the area there are at least some places to visit. Perhaps I'll be able to add more if I travel a bit further afield but for now they'll just be two places kind of in the city plus a brief mention here of Yellow Beer Works which was unfortunately closed on the day we were in town. Will be added properly as and when.

Miyazaki was something of a surprise when we went there as I didn't really consider it much of a beer destination. However, there are actually quite a few breweries in the prefecture and quite a few even in the centre of Miyazaki city. I've visited all of these places so you'll get some details if I can remember then correctly. There are a few more breweries but I don't know if they have taprooms so I'll just mention their names here. I had a Nichinan Bakushu beer and it was really nice. There's also Awakihara, Kirishima and Unkai. So actually it's something of a beery prefecture. Here we go w ..read more

Until recently Oita was a bit of a craft beer desert. Abe Bond seemed to be the only craft beer bar and other than that there was only maybe Monkey Mountain which was basically a counter where you can buy bottles to takeaway. But there are a few new places now. Well one is new and one is new to me and maybe newly beery. Not sure. Think it's probably only Oita city where there is anything to visit. Anyway, here's what they have now.
