An Ode to Opening Day and MLB/Jays 2021 Predictions
Alyssa Cohen: Toronto Blue Jays

This is the most excited I have ever felt before the start of a new baseball season. I was introduced to baseball by my Mom, who was at Game 6 of the 1993 World Series between the Toronto Jays and Philadelphia Phillies (you know, the game where Joe Carter did that thing), and fell in love with baseball after watching this commercial on repeat (no joke!). Like some of you, I became active in the Jays twitter community during the 2015 season.  At that time, I had just gone to my first ever Jays game at the Rogers Centre during April 2015, and started tweeting about them that very day. I had ..read more

A recap of Blue Jays news with under one-week to go until Spring Training 2021!
Alyssa Cohen: Toronto Blue Jays

This past week has been one of more “quiet” weeks of the off-season, with practically all of the top 2021 Free Agents in agreement with a Major League ball club. And I’m not complaining, I have been swamped with school-work this week. That being said, there are still plenty of small things the Blue Jays did that you may have missed, so let’s get you caught up to speed! The Blue Jays announced official Spring Training dates. Just last week, we were still unsure of the official dates of the start of Spring Training. For die-hard baseball fans (I assume that if you’re reading this you fall into t ..read more

MLBBC (MLB Book Club) is the unofficial book club of Major League Baseball, hosted by Alyssa Cohen. Each month, a baseball-focused book is selected to read. Members are able to participate in discussions about the book on the MLBBC twitter account throughout the month.  For the month of February, we will be reading LUCKY BASTARD by Joe Buck.  Sports fans see Joe Buck everywhere: broadcasting one of the biggest games in the NFL every week, doing the World Series every year, announcing the Super Bowl every three years. They know his father, Jack Buck, is a broadcas ..read more

BLUE JAYS OFFICIALLY SIGN GEORGE SPRINGER!
Alyssa Cohen: Toronto Blue Jays
by Alyssa Cohen
3y ago
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! The Toronto Blue Jays have officially signed George Springer to a 6-year, $150-million deal. But, I assume you already knew that! I cannot believe that Springer is now a Blue Jays. George Springer has been one of my favourite baseball players to watch over the last few years, and I cannot wait to see him rocking our uniform while playing at his super-star level. I know many people have tainted images of him because of his involvement in the Houston “Astrics” cheating scandal, but he is one of the only players that came out and apologized right away. He is also very ..read more

Welcome to Nocturnal Jays — the newest Toronto Blue Jays fan blog written by me, Alyssa Cohen! If you’re seeing this post in your inbox, that means that you were most likely following my original baseball blog, Alyssa Cohen MLB. Because the next era of Toronto Blue Jays baseball is upon us, I decided to revamp this blog completely, while still featuring some of my original blog posts from the past several years. This blog was originally supposed to be hosted on Medium, but I decided to transfer back over to WordPress in order to own my own domain, and to ensure all of my old blog posts are sti ..read more

Starting Pitchers the Blue Jays Should Target
Alyssa Cohen: Toronto Blue Jays
by Alyssa Cohen

When perusing through the Toronto Blue Jays roster, it’s clear that the starting rotation is the weakest area of the team. With the addition of Hyun-Jin Ryu during the 2020 off-season, things were looking up for the 2020 Blue Jays. With a healthy Matt Shoemaker, a healthy Ryan Borucki, a ready Tanner Roark, a young and ready Nate Pearson, and an ace in Ryu, the Jays were supposed to be solid in the starting rotation area throughout the season. Unfortunately, things did not go as expected due to injuries to most of the starting pitchers. By the 2020 trade deadline, the Blue Jays traded for quit ..read more

Bold MLB Winter Meetings 2019 Predictions
Alyssa Cohen: Toronto Blue Jays
by Alyssa Cohen

ORIGINALLY POSTED ON AC SPORTS ON DECEMBER 8, 2019. With MLB Winter Meetings just hours away, trade and free agency rumours have been spreading like wild fire. Winter meetings bring out an interesting side of the MLB fan community, and there’s nothing like some insane predictions to add fuel to that fire! MLB Winter Meetings are my absolute favourite part of the MLB offseason. Every year, I enjoy turning on channel 508 (my local MLB Network channel number), and watching all of the sports coverage straight from the hotel lobby of where the MLB Winter Meetings take place. This year, the winter m ..read more

Blue Jays to Retire Roy Halladay’s Uniform Number during Opening Day Ceremony
Alyssa Cohen: Toronto Blue Jays
by Alyssa Cohen

The Blue Jays will be retiring former Cy Young Award Winning and All-Star RHP Roy Halladay’s uniform number on March 29, 2018. In a statement put out earlier today, Blue Jays President and CEO Mark Shapiro expressed his condolences to the Halladay family, as well as his admiration of both the player and person that Roy was. “Through Roy’s values, pride, work ethic, and perseverance, he epitomized what it means to be a Blue Jay. And while his legacy is clear, it goes far beyond the number on his back or his on-field accomplishments, serving as a shining example of how to live a meaningful life ..read more

Happy New Year! 2018 Blog Changes & Announcement
Alyssa Cohen: Toronto Blue Jays

Hi everyone! Happy New Year! Over the past few weeks, I have been seriously looking through different university programs and career paths that seem interesting to me. Obviously, they are all related to English, and most of them are related to journalism. However, the sports media/journalism is a very tricky industry to get into. Thousands of students hope to get in the industry, while very few actually make it. If you are serious about sports writing/journalism, it is important to be able to write about different sports and not just one. Up until now I was just writing about baseball, when in ..read more

The Blue Jays have just released their promo schedule for the 2018 season, and trust me when I say it is the best one I’ve seen from them in a while. The Jays have a lineup of fun themed days, as well as some creative mid-week and weekend giveaways. Pride Day, Star Wars Day, and a Justin Smoak Bobblehead giveaway are just some of the best giveaways from this years schedule! In March, the Blue Jays have a fun Honda Home Opening Weekend lined up for us! This year, the Blue Jays will be starting the season at home on March 29 against the New York Yankees. On Opening Day, the Jays will be giving ..read more
