Bhubaneswar: With Odisha reeling under intense heatwave conditions over the last few days, the state has reported the season’s first sunstroke death, officials said Friday. Sixty-two-year-old Laxmikanta Sahu of Maheshpur in Balasore district died due to sunstroke April 15. This was the first sunstroke death this summer, an official at the Special Relief Commissioner’s office said. Balasore: A local court in Odisha’s Balasore district Friday sentenced a couple to life imprisonment for the murder of their differently-abled minor child in 2022. Additional Sessions Judge Biswajit Das delivered the verdict, ordering Ganesh Jena and his second wife Pratima Jena, residents of Chandmaripadia under Sahadevkhunta police station limits in Balasore town, to undergo life imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs 5,000 each. New Delhi: An aggregate 60.03 per cent voter turnout was recorded in phase one of the Lok Sabha polls Friday, the Election Commission (EC) said. While the figures were issued after the conclusion of polls, the commission said people who were in the queue when voting ended at 6 pm were allowed to exercise their franchise. “The voting percentage is likely to go upwards when reports from all polling stations are obtained as polling is scheduled till 6 PM in many constituencies. Jharsuguda: At least two persons were killed and seven others were missing as a boat they were travelling in capsized in Mahanadi River in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district Friday, police said.
