Review: Lucky Cat by Gordon Ramsay

A restaurant so hotly anticipated that every food critic in London cannot keep their pens off it, naturally we could not help but give it a try. Star-studded chef Gordon Ramsay brought his Japanese-style eatery dream to life within the former maze walls and with his last UK opening being Union Street Café in 2013, a newbie in his restaurant fleet was long overdue. As with all new openings, we arrived with some trepidation, but the restaurant experience at Lucky Cat by Gordan Ramsay sure did impress. From the sommelier to the expertly plated dishes, attentive service and yes, the Gordon Ramsay ..read more

Green Room at The Curtain

Once I’d heard there was an opportunity to review the new afternoon tea offering at Green Room, in the gorgeous, 5-star The Curtain hotel, I jumped at the chance. Located on Curtain road in Shoreditch, this hotel screams elegance. Green Room offers 2 options, afternoon tea, or if you want to treat yourself, champagne afternoon tea. Since we visited on the hottest day of the year, we opted for the latter. To start, we browsed the tea list, packed full of specialist blends, priding themselves on their partnership with Hackney Herbal, a local social enterprise offering a variety of teas and infu ..read more

Review: 108 Brasserie

Marylebone. Stalwart of the West End, and full of history. Tucked away from Marylebone High Street lies 108 Brasserie – a bustling restaurant with a modern and sharp décor that looked absolutely perfect for a Saturday lunch spot. We were presented with a menu that draws inspiration from all over the world, and couldn’t possibly have made a decision on them, so we took on board our waiter’s suggestions and picked a couple of dishes from each section of the lunch menu. Sea bass ceviche, sweet potato, avocado, plantain, lime & chilli – £14.50 First, we had a sea bass ceviche, with sweet pot ..read more

Ask any restaurant guru worth their salt about London’s most beautiful dining rooms, and Dalloway Terrace will undoubtedly get a namedrop. Set in the heart of London’s literary quarter, Bloomsbury, and tucked away from the throngs of Tottenham Court Road, it’s maybe no coincidence that this spot shares its name with one of Virginia Woolf’s most enigmatic and renowned characters, Clarissa Dalloway. Whatever end she might meet, her life revolves around things that glitter: high society, fancy parties and fine fashion. The clientele evidently are game for the aesthetically pleasing in life, and D ..read more

Review: The Coral Room afternoon tea

I love an afternoon tea. Nothing feels more indulgent than tiny sandwiches, dainty cakes and scones in the middle of the afternoon, so I was excited about sampling The Coral Room Sparkling Afternoon Tea. Nestled inside the Bloomsbury Hotel, The Coral Room is the perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle of central London, and definitely a sight for sore eyes. The décor is bold and sumptuous, with huge chandeliers, velvet cushions and a fabulous shade of pink on the walls. We were a little bit early, so sat at the beautifully styled bar while our table was being prepared, watching a series of c ..read more

Pisqu – a review

Peruvian cuisine is on the rise within the UK, noticeably through clusters of restaurants within London, and the use of Peruvian ingredients being heralded as ‘superfoods’ and cementing themselves as staple ingredients in pre-packaged lunches for those looking to eat green/lean/whatever the latest word for it is. Pisqu, however, offers Peruvian cuisine with more style than most. The bright, airy restaurant offsets its white walls with dark wood and some sparse Peruvian fabrics that you could be forgiven for missing. Ultimately, other than the name, it’s not overly obvious from restaurant itsel ..read more

Helix at The Gherkin: the skyscraper that’s still got it

The more glitzy, glass-walled buildings London seems to sprout, the less likely it seems you’ll know what it’s called, or what goes on inside. Take the geometric one that goes for your eyes when you look at it head on: nope. Or that new one that looks a bit like a Toblerone? Not that one either. But one of the few pieces of architecture that’s on the radar of locals, tourists and guide-browsers alike, is The Gherkin. This latticed-glass, pickle-shaped tower comes as one of the capital’s most famed, and though it now, literally, sits in the shadow of some of its neighbours, we don’t see this ch ..read more

The Wellington Club – a review

Jermyn Street is home to quintessential British artistry and craftmanship right in the heart of Piccadilly. Quite a fitting home for The Wellington Club, which boasts similar qualities itself. Finding The Wellington Club at first proves to be challenging, and you’ll have to go on using the good old address rather than rely on any shouty signs. It has a simple, white stone frontage which, given this belies the creativity below, acts as a visual palate cleanser. Step down into the Mayfair basement and you’ll discover an interior that is entirely fitting for all its functions, striking the delica ..read more

The late Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld was said to have been compelled to change his lifestyle because of a desire to wear suits made by Dior designer Hedi Slimane. Mirror-gilled Angler is found on the buzzy seventh floor of the South Place Hotel, complete with a super-slick interior and an in-demand terrace. Having established itself a name as one of the best seafood restaurants in London, it’s no surprise that the very best produce is hauled in at Angler, foraged from coastlines and shores to develop skilled cookery with more than your average soul. Amuse bouches We were set to sample the tasting menu with matching wines to showcase the best signature dishes from executive chef, Gary Foulkes. To start with the snacks, there was a squid ink cracker with ..read more
