A Miami federal judge on Friday sentenced a 39-year-old man to 38 years in prison after being convicted of various child exploitation crimes.
A jury in October 2024 found Rafael Antonio Saldana guilty of several charges, including three counts of attempted enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity.
According to investigators, in 2023, Saldana solicited sexually explicit images from three minors aged 14, 16 and 17 and tried to meet them to have sex.

Like a celestial parade across the cosmos, five bright planets are lighting up the night sky and visible with the naked eye all February long — with two other planets also detectable for skywatchers with special equipment.
Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Mercury are all currently visible with the naked eye for skywatchers in the Northern Hemisphere. Uranus and Neptune are also part of this month’s planetary showcase but are harder to spot because they require binoculars or a telescope to see.

One person was transported to the hospital Saturday morning after they were found unresponsive in a canal in Lauderhill, officials said.
Lauderhill Fire Rescue arrived at the scene at 7300 W. Oakland Park Blvd.
According to rescue crews, the person was in the canal but did not surface. When dive rescue members found the victim, they were underwater and were not breathing.
The person was pulled out of the water and crews performed CPR before transporting them to the hospital.
Their condition remains unknown.

The Miami International Boat Show is ready to set sail for another year.
Starting on Feb. 12 at the Miami Beach Convention Center, the event is expected to bring hundreds of thousands of attendees.
According to organizers, the boat show brings in nearly $1 billion in revenue.

A former Broward Sheriff’s deputy fired amid excessive force allegations back in 2022 has been arrested for allegedly hitting a student while working as a security guard at a Pompano Beach high school.
Ronald Lamar Thurston, 48, was arrested Thursday on two counts of aggravated child abuse and one count of battery, Broward jail records showed.
