Why is narrowing conversion (C2397) an error and not a warning?

Recently I was using narrowing conversion intentionally, and using static_cast would have added a lot of boilerplate in my case, but Visual Studio didn't let me compile because of Compiler Error C2397. Isn't narrowing conversion valid code according to the C++ standard, shouldn't it just be a warning and not an error that prevents you from compiling? There are compiler options to treat a specific warning as an error, so people that want it to trigger an error could do that even if it was a warning by default, but afaik the reverse is not possible, there is no way to make MSVC treat an error l ..read more

Didn't update VS2022 for a good while (like mid 2023), now I did the update & the color settings are just off, everything is the same, only the tooltips retained the color scheme, all the variables are not like they used to be. Everything is just the mostly the same color. I used before the import of some smart other guys VSSettings and everything was pretty perfect, after update & reimport, nothing helps. Probably just a bit of my vent, but no way anyone else isn't suffering after some mystic update - would be interested if there is any tips, or suggestions for themes, that incorpora ..read more

Hello, I have a solution with a Windows program (a console app), a back end and a web front end. The Windows project (program) connects to the back end and I use the front end to verify the connection. But I need to simulate some network problems (for example no network or slow network) to verify the state of the connection. Is it possible, in Visual Studio, to simulate network problems for my Windows project? submitted by /u/hthouzard [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi everyone! I am currently writing my bachelor thesis about maui vs blazor webassembly and need to measure the cpu and ram usage of those during a specific testcase. I wanted to do that with the profiling tool in Visual Studio, but i am way overwhelmed by it and its funcionality. I want to measure what percentage of cpu and what measurement of ram the application needs during the test procedure(like if i am watching at the task manager). Would anyone please be so kind and help me out? Would even be very thankful for any piece of advice in terms of performance measurement in this case. Than ..read more
