Gardening with the 3 H's can be a challenge - heat, humidity, and hurricane season. Flowers bring me joy and I spend as much time as possible in my tropical/cottage gardens.

Good Saturday afternoon ~ I thought I'd finish up the Miami Orchid show posts with the two orchids I got from the show. One Sarah bought for me and the other I bought myself. Orchids are 'expensive'.
Sarah and I walked around looking at all of the booths. Some I could tell were way out of my financial league and we passed them by. Near the rear of the show there were some orchids that were less expensive, but NOT less beautiful. The rare, more exotic ones seemed to be up front, fancier booths, etc.
We came across a dainty orchid that was very fragrant. The spray was full of tiny orchid blooms ..read more

Good morning Folks ~ low when I got up this morning 44 and real feel was 38. The sun is shining brightly in a big blue sky, first time since last Sunday when Sarah and I went to the orchid show.
Now, here's the final post of beautiful orchids from this show.
Well, as Bugs Bunny used to say,
"The bea, the bea, the bea,
that's all folks."
~~~~~~
Enjoy your weekend.
Good morning ~ this morning is colder than yesterday, it was 49 real feel 41 @ 8 this morning, tomorrow it is to be colder. I finally had to get out my old radiant heater which we found dumped roadside probably between 40-45 years ago. It heats up this little space nicely. It has 10 numbers and we've always used it no higher than 4. I am thankful for it. It's not pretty, but it works and it was free.
Now for some more orchid 'eye-candy'. Enjoy.
As I was editing the next photo my heart was moved almost to tears while listening to a you tube video of Ennio Morricone's ..read more
Hi Folks, My goodness, this month is zipping right along. We are having some chilly weather down here in zone 10 s.e. FL. It started Monday with light rain and has drizzled off and on through earlier this morning. More 'liquid sunshine' is to happen around 11-12 today then no rain is predicted for the next 9 days. Low temps in the 40's for the next two nights. Highs have been around 60. Some areas could see frost this weekend.
Sunday a new sweet young friend, Sarah, and I went to an orchid show in Miami, her treat. It was a respite from every day life and stresses for me. We took t ..read more
Greetings from Plum Cottage this first day of January 2025. I hope you all had safe holidays and pray that 2025 will be a blessed year for you.
The fireworks were not as bad as I expected last night and really only lasted about 30-45 minutes before all was quiet once again. In years past, fireworks have lasted till around 2 am. I did see some wonderful sparkly colors happening out my scullery window and they made up for all of the noise.
The header photo is of the garlic vine covering my wash house. There is also Hamelia patens, bougainvillea, Alamo vine, and a couple other vines I can't think ..read more
Good morning Folks,
Here it is the 23rd of December already. We've had some lovely chilly weather down here in s.e. FL, lowest so far for me has been 51 with real feel temp of 42. Woke up to this look on scullery window that let me know it was cold outside. I don't see this often so it was a treat.
I've not done much decorating so far this year, dealing with cataract surgeries. Got a late start so will leave it Christmasy looking until the new year.
Here's my tiny tree in my little office/creative space. Lovely 'Angel Face' roses from my overgrown gardens are scenting the space with their w ..read more
Greetings friends ~ Here it is almost the middle of December. We are having cooler temps, with rain and continuing cool temps for the next week starting Saturday. Right now the sun is shining in a big blue sky, we have winds @ 15 mph with gusts @ 25. The temp at 1:12 pm is 72 but real feel is 68.
Yesterday I had cataract surgery done on the left eye, on Nov. 20th I had the right eye surgery. This morning I had a follow up on the left eye and all is doing well. Eye pressure normal. It is a little blurry, to be expected, but getting better as the day marches on. The brightness of colors is truly ..read more
Greetings Friends,
Sorry I've been missing in action, I've thought about posting but just haven't felt like going through the motions of editing photos, getting thoughts together to write and post. Here it is almost two months since my last post and finally I feel like posting.
After Helene, we had Milton pass us by, but giving us strong winds. I spent the night with young friends from church and their two tiny ones. We didn't lose power there until the next morning. Water for coffee and breakfast were made on their grill. I left for home around 10, a short distance from their place and before ..read more
Greetings from wet south Florida.
First of all, let me say that I've been praying for everyone who suffered such devastation from Hurricane Helene. The videos that have been coming out have been heart breaking. I am thankful for all of the all American grass roots help that people have been receiving. Kindness and generosity from so many around the country.
I had some rain but mostly wind from Helene as I am on the southeast coast of Florida. Now, we are dealing with the threat of Hurricane Milton to make landfall on the west coast of FL. My heart aches for all of those on the west coast and a ..read more
Hello Friends, sorry I've not been around much. Time is zipping right along, faster than ever it seems. We've had heat advisories almost every day for a month, maybe two months. Over the past couple of days I have 'felt' 'hints' of fall 'coming'. When my dear hubby was here I would say to him when I felt these hints, "Fall is coming." He would laugh every time, because it is the middle of August and we still have September to get through and heat and humidity can still be brutal.
I try to get out early to work from 1-3 hours depending on how hot and humid it is. My body lets me know whe ..read more
