Click image to link to video KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Since mid-March Random Acts of Flowers has stopped its service following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s directives. Every week close to 1,500 lightly used flowers were delivered to seniors around East Tennessee before the coronavirus swept across the country. The nonprofit collects bouquets from florists, grocery stores and funeral homes. Their volunteers help arrange the flowers and make delivers several times a week. DUNEDIN, Fla. — On this Valentine’s Day, not everyone has a loved one to brighten their day with flowers. A company in Tampa Bay called Random Acts of Flowers stepped in — taking flowers and cards that would otherwise be tossed and making beautiful bouquets for people living in nursing homes. Hundreds of new students spent part of this week getting a taste of what it means to be a Volunteer by serving communities through the Ignite Serves program. First-year students partnered with a slate of Knoxville organizations to help fulfill needs in the community. They loaded backpacks with school supplies and inspirational notes to be distributed to children by the Boys and Girls Club of the Tennessee Valley.
