Hi there - My first baby and love of my life shepherd chow mix came back with her first irregular blood result at her wellness exam. Her blood showed slightly elevated creatinine and SDMA levels (Creatinine 1.7 mg/dl when the range is .5 - 1.5, and SDMA 18 ug/DL when it should be max 14). We then got her a urine analysis and she had slightly dilute urine (1.015 urine specific gravity). We repeated the tests. Same values. The vets think this is early sign of chronic kidney disease and I’m wondering a) Is there anything else this could be? Could it still be one off random if two tests 10 days a ..read more

My 1 and a half year old Golden Retriever has a MCT.

I'm posting this because I'm struggling to find ways to contain my anxiety now. I have two golden (1 is 3.5yr old male and then one is 1.5yr old male), they're half brothers (same breeder, different dams). About 2 weeks ago I noticed a shadow on his back leg below his butt cheek. Just thought it was something to do with the light. I noticed it again a few days later and checked it and found a lump. It has grown SO fast. Obviously I rang the vet and got an appointment. We got out of the vet today and she said it's a MCT! Surgery is scheduled for next week and then we still have to wait for the ..read more

Kitten started peeing outside the litter box

I'm currently on holiday and have a neighbour looking after my cats (both 4-5months, female). I'll be back in a few days, but can't come back early because it's a long distance flight. The cats have never had any issues with their litter boxes, but apparently one of them has started peeing in the bathtub. This has only happened once, but I'm a bit worried because the cats have never had any litter box related issues. I've asked my neighbour to clear out the litter boxes in case they were too dirty. Is there anything I should tell my neighbour to do or not do now? I've already asked them to ta ..read more

Feral cat help

I was looking for guidance about what could be wrong with this cat. I work with a rescuer from the aspca . They have a tnr program for feral cats . I have adopted a few of their displaced feral cats that had to removed . I live in a very rural secluded mountainous area so for most of the cats it is very much a change in environment. Of course there as many dangers here as well that mainly consist of wildlife. I was shown a girl last night that I was told is perfectly healthy and has vision despite it being cloudy. I can’t have a rescue here that wouldn’t be able to protect herself . Is this a ..read more

Dog throwing up after diarrhea

Background, my vet thinks my dog has a chicken allergy. Typically if she eats chicken, she gets diarrhea that lasts about 2 days. I had given her some treats and realized they had chicken in them after some diarrhea started yesterday. This morning (4 am my time), she was throwing up brown liquid that smelled bad. Could this be related to her allergy or is this a sign of something more serious like a blockage? Her vet opens in the morning and I was trying to avoid the overpriced ER vet tonight. What stage kidney disease is my dog? What else can I do for her? Prognosis?

My dog was recently Dx with kidney disease after increasing thirst/urination and then bedwetting over the last few months. It look longer than I would have liked to get the diagnosis due to various issues with lost samples/missing lab results. Anyway, I've included the most recent test results below. The vet has advised putting her on a renal diet, so I'm currently trialing a bunch of them (hills k/d, royal canin, purina etc.) to see what she finds most palatable. I've stopped giving her animal products as snacks/treats (so no meat, no fish, no liver treats, no bull pizzles or antlers etc. et ..read more

Darkening of cat fur, small irritated pink bump

Hi, this is likely nothing serious, but my cat is elderly (10-11) so I get very paranoid. I noticed a small, pink bump with some irritated skin/darkened fur surrounding it. She’s been biting and licking at it a lot. What do you think this may be? My best guesses are dermatitis, allergies, or some sort of bacterial infection (worst case scenario, and likely not as she’s overall fine) I got scared as she got really upset with me when I touched the area. She is not an outdoor cat. It’s not a bug bite. We do have a dog and another cat and it could have been from a scratch, but that doesn’t seem t ..read more

Standard poodle losing weight

My standard poodle is losing weight very fast since her mom died in December. About 1 week after her mom Zoey died, she became depressed and ended up going blind and going downhill very badly. After my family stopped coming home in early January she became even more depressed and so I moved out of the house so maybe she wouldn't smell them anymore and she can make new memories. I hug her and feed her lots of treats, peanut butter and beef Jerky which she loves but recently it has been getting hard for her to walk with her two back legs because she lost so much weight, I have to assist her to ..read more

Goose’s new voracious appetite and increased anxiety

Hi everyone, Goose has what our vet called an “abnormal” case and we’d would love some input. For starters Goose is a 6 year-old (turning 7 in June), neutered, male, Pit-Sherphard mix weighing 62 pounds who lives with my wife and me in Brooklyn, NY. We don’t know his exact breed, but know he’s a street dog from the Cayman Islands. I’ve had him since he was 2 months old and he’s always had a sensitive stomach but no other serious issues aside from a single minute-long seizure in november 2023. We took him to a specialist soon after who told us he was fine and did not need an MRI. He’s up to da ..read more
