I’d like to share one more moment of gratitude before we move on to all the other events that happen during the rest of the year. Thank you doesn’t even begin to describe how grateful we are for the support shown to the animals from our DPA Family. Whether you are a donor, a volunteer, a foster, an adopter, or someone who follows us and appreciates what we do… you save lives EVERY DAY!   That’s how the stories go. An animal in need. People with hearts like yours. Wonderful vets. Talented trainers. And happy endings for sweet fur-babies like Diamond. It means the world that you are o ..read more

The Pawsome Person Program recognizes some of the amazing volunteers & fosters who support our organization and companion animals in North Texas.  “DPA events and Meghan go hand in hand. Meghan says she’s only an event assistant director but she steps up almost anytime there’s a need and takes the lead. She genuinely cares about presenting DPA well and making sure that the volunteers and fosters are taken care of. Those are examples of the responses we get when we ask about Meghan D.. She’s always quick to save the day whether as a temporary foster, event volunteer or as a friend. She ..read more

Five months ago, Shelby Sue was a scrawny, starving mutt lying in an alleyway. She’d contracted heart worms and been hit by a car, leaving her with huge scabs and scars all over her body, and leaving her without the energy to walk. It was in the alley that Dallas Animal Services found her.  With the shelter’s space often hitting critical status since the beginning of COVID, Dallas Pets Alive! Founder and Executive Director Leslie Sans picked up the dog herself to foster until she could find a permanent home. Now, Shelby Sue is 40 pounds heavier and happily lo ..read more

We have an opportunity! USA Today and the Gannett Foundation’s “A Community Thrives” Grant Program wants nonprofits to be eligible for a portion of $2M in grants. (REALLY important right now because the shelters are beyond capacity and too many animals are losing their lives.)  We have $4,500 in Matching Funds! Some wonderful supporters ..read more

This year, Dallas Pets Alive! is celebrating our 10th anniversary as a foster-based rescue organization dedicated to saving the lives of healthy and treatable pets at greatest risk of euthanasia in North Texas. While we celebrate this milestone, we also want to celebrate YOU because together, we have transformed more than 11,000 animals’ and their families’ lives!  Most pets that come into our care have medical issues so severe that shelters don’t have the capacity to care for them. More than a ⅓ of the animals DPA helps are considered Major Medical Cases ($1,000 or more in medical expens ..read more

A couple weeks ago, Dallas Pets Alive! along with 10 local non-profit organizations and our corporate sponsor, CUDDLY, collaborated with a goal of distributing 30,000 pounds of pet food, supplies and other services to those in need. CUDDLY’s inaugural community event, Dallas Pets Are Family, brought together local organizations for a day of lifesaving impact. The event, held June 4th, not only met, but exceeded our goals, and plans are already underway for the next event – much to the relief and excitement of clients and community members. 311 dogs and their families served 202 cats and ..read more

“I nominated Markita because she is one of those dependable behind the scenes volunteers that doesn’t get the credit she deserves. Markita is responsible for searching through all of our emails to find  and enter all the medical expenses into a spreadsheet. Though it’s not glamorous and hands-on, tracking our vet costs and allocating them correctly is a giant weight off of my shoulders and allows me to focus on the health and well-being of our foster animals.  In the past, Markita has fostered kitties and saved countless lives, but these days, she’s been traveling the world with her ..read more
