Inflation figures released today are likely to see interest rates remain high for longer, according to experts. The Consumer Price Index climbed 1 per cent in the March quarter and 3.6 per cent annually, according to the latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). Low-income earners are doing things tough at the moment, with a new report finding minimum wage earners could only afford less than one per cent of rental properties. Anglicare’s Rental Affordability Snapshot found that of the current 45,115 rental listings in Australia, only 289 were cheap enough for a person earning a full-time minimum wage to comfortably afford, leading to calls for the government to increase social housing numbers. The number of cranes across city skylines is now at the second-highest level on record, signalling a rebound in confidence from developers. Property prices have hit yet another record, with the combined capital city house and unit prices rising by up to 1 per cent in the March quarter. According to the latest Domain House Price Report for the March quarter, capital city house prices jumped 1 per cent to a median of $1.112 million.
