By now, you have likely read or heard about the heartbreaking torture and killing of a wolf in Wyoming.1The details are horrific. This yearling wolf–who some have named Theia–was run down by a 700-pound snowmobile and incapacitated, her mouth was taped shut, and she was paraded, clinging to life, around a local bar, before being killed out back. This was torture.
Support our fight to protect wolves from torture and brutal hunting and trapping with your gift today.
The attacker–Cody Roberts, of Wyoming–was able to legally crush the young wolf with a snowmobile and ultimately kill and skin her ..read more

Hello, American Bird Conservancy Action Fund Supporters!
Great news! On April 9, the House of Representatives passed the Migratory Birds of the Americas Conservation Enhancements Act (H.R.4389). This bill reauthorizes the Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Act (NMBCA), a federal grants program that funds migratory bird research and habitat restoration across the Western Hemisphere. On February 28th of this year–just 26 days after the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service denied gray wolves protections–Cody Roberts of Daniel Wyoming tortured and killed a female yearling gray wolf after running her down with a snowmobile and taping her mouth shut.
This abhorrent act of cruelty cannot become normal or acceptable. The wildlife that you and I fight for every day face enough threats from habitat loss, climate change, and over consumption by lawful hunters. Torture cannot be added to that already-grave list.
Share this story to build pressure on decision-makers to act.

BOISE, Ida. – Today, 10 conservation groups challenged the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (“the Service”) over its failure to list western wolves under the Endangered Species Act. The Service’s “not warranted” finding ignores obvious threats to the species, runs contrary to the best available science, and relies on flawed population models for its determination.
“The current killing regimes in Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming put wolves at obvious risk of extinction in the foreseeable future, and this core population is key to wolf survival in the West,” said Erik Molvar, a wildlife biologist and e ..read more

My family, which includes me, my husband, two teenage girls, and a bouncy terrier, loves holidays. Preparing special meals, decorating the house, and gathering together are always our favorite times.
Here at ESC, we are getting ready for our biggest holiday of the year, Endangered Species Day. Founded by ESC in 2006, this global celebration of wildlife on the third Friday of May has grown to include thousands of events in the U.S. and around the world. I love this day because it is an opportunity to reflect on our successes, reconnect with nature, and honor the people in communities who are ..read more

March 15, 2024 – The Friends of the North Cascades Grizzly Bear Coalition celebrates today as federal agencies greenlight a plan to bring grizzly bears back to the North Cascades Ecosystem.
The National Park Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service have announced the final environmental impact statement and grizzly bear reintroduction plan. The agencies’ decision to restore grizzlies to their historic homelands, where they are functionally extinct, is a huge victory for wildlife and the people who cherish our wild landscapes. The decision is accompanied by a 10(j) rule that gives ..read more

The Grizzly bear is an American wildlife icon, and a key component of our unique Western wildlife heritage. Lewis and Clark wrote about encountering grizzly bears when they explored the West more than 200 years ago.
This year, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) is making progress on restoring grizzly bears to two ecosystems in the West, where grizzlies have long been absent: the North Cascades in north-central Washington, and the Bitterroots along the Montana-Idaho border. ESC has field staff working on the ground in both regions.
In the Washington, the National Park Service ..read more
