Jadoo means magic. When you watch this video of astounding healing from a wound that took almost all the flesh from this boy’s head, you’ll know why we’ve named him Jadoo. He waited quietly near a temple gate, as if he were waiting for someone. But we couldn’t take any chances–if Jadoo bolted out of […]

Laying in a gutter, this little guy was at the final stage of Canine Distemper. Canine Distemper is a virus that attacks their nervous, respiratory and gastrointestinal system. Street dogs usually don’t get vaccinated, and the mortality rate is extremely high. His emaciated body, having been racked by fever and weakness so profound he couldn’t […]

This emaciated young bull was covered in blood and flies from a serious neck wound. He lay motionlessly; it seemed he was resigned to dying there on the side of the road. But by the time this gentle soul arrived in our hospital his hope was somehow restored: he stood! An infection had caused great […]

Gerty is a street dog who had been hit by a car. Her fur is dirty; she probably was rolled, too. She appeared lifeless, but as we approached we could see the faint stirrings of her breathing. But Gerty was deeply hurt. We just didn’t know where, at first. She did have a small wound […]

This older street dog was found utterly collapsed on the side of the road. His life force was merely a whisper. We examined him for wounds and, finding none, deduced he must have had a head injury because although his eyes were open, he seemed unable to comprehend anything. Or perhaps his neck was so […]

Shubh’s starving body was being taken over by mange. He was tricky to catch, so our cameraman had to join in the help and our next look at Shubh reveals a very forlorn boy, confused to suddenly find himself in a strange kennel in an ambulance. We had to muzzle him after welcoming him onto […]

She’s beautiful to look at–sleek, with a strong young body, her glossy coat in good condition. Inside though, is an electrical firestorm. Neighbors saw that a street dog was desperately wounded with a massive wound that had cut her open at the cheek and under her lower jaw and throat. They themselves rushed her to our hospital and into emergency treatment.
When we received this bleeding, nearly-delirious girl, we were surprised that she was alive. We leapt into action and within minutes had treated her for pain, started a drip, cleaned, closed and bandaged the huge open wound.
Weeks of daily wound dressings brought steady, almost uncanny progress. Meet majestic Cinnamon now!

Doon had been hit by a car.
He lay motionlessly, revealing his life force only by a subtle rise and fall in his chest. He was still breathing. As we lifted him he cried out, but then fell silent and remained so for several days.
Due to head trauma, Doon was unconscious when we laid him on the treatment table. We treated him for pain and we were mainly concerned about whether or not he would ever regain consciousness.
So we were utterly delighted when, by his second day, he was able to swallow when fed using a syringe. Even that swallow reflex indicated progress, healing. By the third day he sh ..read more

Peter’s hind leg was badly broken.
He crouched on the side of the road, probably just a few feet from where he had been struck by a passing car.
The sadhu (Hindu devotee) who called for our rescue waited until the ambulance arrived. When he reached the hospital’s treatment table his eyes seemed to say, innocently, without judgment, with just a hint of doubt, “What are you doing to me?” but then immediately they softened to “But OK, then, I’m ready!”
We treated him for pain, inflammation and examined the fracture, which needed a stabilizing splint. What a good boy he was throughout ..read more
