Coming home from an after dark grocery run, I heard a loud, sharp meow coming from a low, swampy area near the back of our apartment complex. Recognizing it as a kitten cry, I ran inside, dropped my groceries on the floor and grabbed a flashlight and a bag of cat treats.

I followed the cries and it took a while, but I finally managed to extract a small, dirty, very hungry kitten from a large bush. And boy ..read more

Polar bears usually spend most of their time on sea ice around the Arctic Ocean, but one group of bears decided to take up residence in abandoned homes on a remote island in Russia.
There are photos to prove it.

Wildlife and underwater photographer, Dmitry Kokh, took a much-anticipated trip out to Chukotka and Wrangel Island in hopes of capturing polar bears in their natural habitat.

A Jack Russell mix named Millie slipped her lead while out for a walk in Hampshire, England. She evaded all efforts by police, firefighters and coastguards to rescue her from the dangerous mudflats.
As the tide began to rise, rescuers needed to come up with something fast to save her from drowning.
“It was a crazy idea,” Chris Taylor, with Denmead Drone Search and Rescue team (DDSAR), told The Guardian.
The nonprofit uses drones to find lost pets in Hampshire and reunite them with their families for free. They helped locate and track her as rescuers tried multiple methods to rescue her.

If there is one thing that people enjoy doing, it sharing pictures of their pets online. Often, those pictures are instantly met with plenty of likes and comments because we all love animals.
That wasn’t necessarily the case after a picture was posted on Reddit, though.
The owner of the dogs posted it in the forum, What’s Wrong with Your Dog? Since that time, it has gained a lot of attention.

As it turns out, the picture is an optical illusion but it is so strange looking that you can’t help but stare at it and wonder how it could possibly be true.

If you happen to have a cat in your life, you already realize they can squeeze themselves into some tiny places. In fact, it’s almost as if they prefer to find a perch when it is almost too small for their body.
Since we know that cats love sitting in boxes, the question was raised if they would still sit inside of a picture of a box if it were drawn on the floor. Researchers took this question and ran with it.
One researcher launched a citizen science project and attempted to trick felines by using the “Kanizsa contour illusion.”

We used to have a nickname for our family dog: Mother Hen. That was because she was constantly being a very nurturing and loving mom figure to our other pets. The rabbits adored her. They definitely enjoyed constant kisses and cuddles.
Our cats…well, they loved her as well, but they also bullied her a lot for her giant cozy dog bed. Our dogs can be quite affectionate and caring for other animals, and a perfect example of this is Milo.
Milo is a sweet little stray who was picked up by a Good Samaritan close to the Mexico border with Arizona.

And, they’re off!
A trio of adorable dachshund doggies is melting the internet’s heart with a clip of them playing around in the snow. It is too cute not to make you want to smile.
Snow days can be quite uneventful, particularly if you just hole up inside and don’t bother with the cold. But for those with dogs, the snow doesn’t stop them.

However, for some dogs, the snow can be a little intimidating, particularly if they’re small. We’ve all seen funny videos of short dogs getting stuck in the snow while on a romp outside.
But one dog owner, Dr. Adam Christman, decided ..read more

Cats are probably some of the coolest animals in the animal kingdom. And I don’t mean cool as in they’ve got amazing physical capabilities. Well, the big cats of the wild certainly do.
But I’m talking about the cute little domesticated kitties that share our homes. They’re not as impressive as their wild cousins, yet they still strut around with big attitudes. They know that they’re cool and they’re letting the rest of us know it.
But as they walk around like they own the place, have you ever noticed that they have a little pooch that looks like they’ve got a sagging belly?

The internet is no stranger to a good ol’ optical illusion. In fact, in recent years there have been multiple very heated debates surrounding certain optical illusions.
We all remember the black and blue dress versus white and gold dress that nearly melted the Twittersphere a few years back, right? I think we’ll still be talking about that one a decade from now.
Well, another optical illusion making the rounds on social media is actually a living, breathing optical illusion. It’s a cat that looks like a dog.

If you’ve spent any time gazing into your cat’s eyes — and be honest, I’m sure you have — you probably noticed one of the most unique and beautiful feline features.
Cats have vertical pupils, which narrow their eyes into slits in bright light and pair with their naturally reflective Tapetum lucidum to make a striking effect in the dark as well.
The reason for this feature is an interesting one.
