We just bought a house through M/I and we did the standard cabinet/floor package with plans to upgrade things down the road. They give you that paper showing you what you get but I was wondering if anyone had bought through M/I and got the standard package and could share pictures? Its so hard to visualize from the tiny pictures they gave. Doesnt need to be exact plan as us but we got the Findlay plan if that helps. I won land in Pasco county, Florida. They sent me a tax deed document in my name and when I called them to ask when I’m gonna get a title or what should I do to get a title, they told me “this document is a title”. Even though on the internet it says that it’s not. Can you please help me? Thank you! submitted by /u/olyavelikaya [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I own my home, it’s paid in full by an inheritance. It’s in my name. My partner and I are building a new home together. We are going in on it together but I will be supplying all of the down payment and he supply’s the consistent income to qualify for this home. (I will be investing the rest of the profits from the sale of my home.) How can I protect my down payment in this new home if anything were to happen? Selling it would not be an option for me. I’m meeting with a lawyer this week but I wanted to see if anyone had any advice beforehand. submitted by /u/Cozyyblanket [visit reddit] [comm ..read more

Should a first-timer buy traditional, modular, or manufactured?

My wife and I are looking to get into the housing market in about a year or so. We've calculated how much we need to save, and what our price range would be for our respective incomes. Right now, we're trying to figure out if going with the traditional, brick house is a good idea. Considering the absolute state of not just the housing market but the entire American economy leaves us wondering what might be the best option. I'm a do-it-yourself kind of guy, so I like the idea of a modular home. However, we would need to account for land ownership, construction, etc. Would not be as simple as b ..read more

HUD home inspection

Hi everyone, I am in the process of buying a HUD property and just got the inspection done a few days ago. There are lot of deficiencies they listed that the PCR missed (roof needs repair, cracks in the foundation from water damage, gutters pouring water into the foundation, we need to fireproof the garage, etc). My dad is a contractor and he estimates that these issues could cost around $20k to fix and that’s not even including the fact that this home doesn’t even have flooring. But my agent is telling me that HUD won’t fix anything or even budge on the price. I don’t feel like they have my ..read more

Buying land with 20 years in mind

I'm in the Midwest and have been on the lookout for some land to build on. We personally only want to manage 2-5 acres, but am looking at at 30 acre plot of farmland about 15 minutes from Madison, WI We'd love to split off/sell the rest of the land in the future to a developer. And we're OK with holding it in the meantime for 15-20 years as rented farmland. How can you predict if the county/city municipalities will allow that in the future? Based on the location and the way Madison is projected to grow, I think it's a good bet. Anyone have an experience working with county/city municipalities ..read more

Disclosure issue

The homeowner disclosed they have a cesspool that needs to be replaced. They however did not disclose they tried to replace the cesspool and there are no viable options for a septic replacement due to high water table. Probably going to have to back out and fight to get my escrow back since they didn’t disclose there are no septic options. The only thing i can get are holding tanks. Unfortunately in this area homebuyers have to waive all inspections and appraisals to have bids accepted. Thoughts? submitted by /u/ParksDontBsuspicious [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I'm in uk and on low wages because I couldn't go to uni. What's the cheapest way I can buy somewhere to live? Like really cheap 20-40k? I've looked at these following options: Auctions - for low quality places in bad areas. But most seemed to be really bad like the roof collapsing or loads of mould etc...maybe can find somewhere which is okay structurally just needs fixing up Build - Buy land, and build a small 1 story house on it. I feel it might cost more than 40k though Buy mobile home & land - would cost like 4k for a decent mobile home, 4k for some.land on auction, I think quite a fe ..read more
