In my first book “40 Sufi Comics” I’ve got a story called “The Power of Prayers.” It’s one of my favourite comics in the book. Here’s the same comic redrawn by the award-winning artist Charbak Dipta: So why this new style? I’m working on some new and very exciting Sufi Comics projects. As part of the projects, I’m collaborating with writers & artists — and trying out new styles. Inshallah I look forward to sharing with you more details about our upcoming projects. In the meantime, let me know what you think of this new style ..read more

I’m very excited to share the launch of our latest book “Sufi Lines.” It’s now available in almost all Amazon stores, both Kindle and paperback. About the Book The book’s chapters contain reflections that invite us to think more deeply about how we can face life’s challenges and improve ourselves. Some of the topics explored are: What is true success? What does it mean to be powerful? What is God’s wisdom in giving us pain? How do we face our fears and overcome addictions? What does it mean to cultivate gratitude and humility? Each chapter has an illustration of a quote along with a verse fr ..read more

From our five senses, our eyes give us the most amount of information. But even with more information, we don’t always see things clearly. Insight is the faculty that helps us perceive the world accurately. With eyesight, we’ll see the world as separate things With insight, we’ll see we’re all connected. With eyesight, we see the purpose of life is to maximize pleasure With insight, we see the purpose of life is to express our gifts. With eyesight, we see life ends when we die With insight, we see life as a dream, when we die we wake up. With eyesight, we see happiness is based on material ob ..read more

? The Gift of Pain

When we suffer, our heart calls out to God: “Why is there so much pain?” “Why are you doing this to me?” “How can an All-Compassionate God put me through this trouble?” These are good questions, that we shouldn’t ignore. Asking questions with a sincere intent are ways for us to elevate our understanding of ourselves and our role in the world. I hope to show you how the pain in this world can be a gift. Gaining this understanding, will not reduce your pain, but will reduce your suffering. Why have we come into this world? Did God force us to come? Did he push us here? Spiritual traditions inclu ..read more

What We’ve Gotten Wrong about the Environmental Crisis — A Muslim’s View
Sufi Comics Blog

I remember growing up hearing about the problem of the environmental crisis. And honestly, I wouldn’t think much about it. Everything around me looked fine, while there were other problems that always seemed “bigger” and “more urgent”. War. Famine. Poverty. The problem of environmental crisis seemed just like a bad use of technology, and somehow I thought scientists would solve this problem with better technology. However, in spite of many years of being aware of climate change, things have only gotten worse. In fact, the effect of climate change is so drastic and taking place so fast that you ..read more

? You’re Perfect
Sufi Comics Blog

As spiritual seekers, we’re always looking for a way to become better. Instead of operating from fear, we want to operate from a place of abundance Instead of feeling pain we want to experience bliss Instead of feeling separate from God, we want to get closer to God Inherent in that approach is the feeling that we are not perfect, and we’re on this infinite journey towards perfection. However, that perspective is not always helpful. It’s not wrong, because that’s how the time-trapped ego looks at the world ie a linear fashion where things need to move from imperfection to perfection. As spir ..read more

Every day, we are faced with hundreds of choices about what to do. Choices like: What to eat and not eat What to give and what to take What to say and what to hold back Most choices we encounter are simple, and we decide without much thought. But there are some that create a dilemma because the stakes are high, the situation is grey and we want to make the right decision. It could be a conflict situation with a loved one or making a big life-changing decision. When I would face such choices I would ask myself “What’s the right thing to do?” My experience has shown that asking this question i ..read more

As a parent, I worry about the amount of exposure available to my children. In my parent’s generation, it was less. Me growing up it was more. My kids growing up, it seems almost unavoidable. I don’t have answers. I think it’ll depend from place to place, culture to culture, family to family, individual to individual. However, there’s something about this quote that gives guidance: The eyes are yearning for beauty, but when the eyes feast, it leads to a hollow feeling. It’s like we were looking for something but in the wrong place. There lies a beauty beyond the eyes, which is so encompassing ..read more

I regret every time I eat until my stomach is full. It saps my energy. I can’t think clearly. The most productive thing to do then is low IQ work or just sleep. As someone who eats food fast, I realize how I quickly become full without even realizing it. This is a simple but constant reminder I give myself. When I eat slowly, and deliberately leave space, I get energy and focus to do meaningful work. Try it ..read more

? Humility…
Sufi Comics Blog

Greetings! What is humility? I used to think to be humble you have to put yourself down, privately and publicly. It’s something that you do by sharing your shortcomings in conversations. However on further reflection, it seems by criticizing yourself you’re trying to show people how “humble” you are. Is that really humility? It seems like pride disguised as humility. It reminds of a quote I once read: “Don’t act so humble; you not that great.” A man who overtly criticizes himself, is secretly praising himself. ~ Imam Ali So what is humility? I don’t think we need to “be humble.” Humility is a ..read more
