Last year I did a TEDx talk. It was absolutely terrifying and difficult but one of the most incredible experiences I’ve ever pushed myself to do. I still can’t believe I didn’t fall off the stage and vomit. Despite all the technical issues we had e.g. 2 dodgy cameras, a mic that broke midway through the talk and missing footage (producers nightmare) it’s finally here! This is our reality of trying and failing to have a baby (in a million and one ways) but most importantly the one thing that’s kept me sane. To anyone who knows what that feels like and especially those suffer ..read more

IVF/ IUI & all forms of TTC not working? The benefits of the Yale Endometrial Function Test

I feel like a broken record. IUI didn’t work for us again. It was our 4th round on top of 4 IVF’s in 4 years and I’m utterly exhausted with this process. Although I prepared for the worst… I was convinced it worked. My symptoms got increasingly stronger (breast tenderness/ cramping). Until we got the negative. So why am I now doing this new Yale Endometrial Function Test? At my ‘WTF happened?’ meeting my RE said it was strange because everything seemed to go perfectly. The lower dose of stimulation meds produced 4 synchronized follicles and we triggered at the perfect size (around 17mm ..read more

Why oh why do IUI? The benefits and success rates of artificial insemination (IUI)

It’s nearly my 4 year anniversary of doing fertility treatment so to celebrate I decided to do another IUI (intrauterine insemination). Then I remembered someone once told me that doing IUI was as effective as a  fart in the wind… which made me laugh. But it made me think twice, maybe we just stick with the more generally successful route of IVF?  I decided to explore all the benefits of artificial insemination (IUI) and success rates myself. After doing 3 IUI and 4 IVF’s without success, doing IUI again seemed like an odd suggestion. It was like being told to go back to pre school a ..read more

IVF & IUI: Why the injection trigger is an emotional trigger? And why this is our last IUI ever.

This morning at 8.30am I had my 3rd ultrasound of the week to check if I was ready for IUI (artificial insemination). My 4 follicles looked ready (size info below) and my RE said my lining looked beautiful, aaah I never dreamt I’d feel so proud of someone telling that my uterine lining was ‘beautiful’ but this is the weirdo I’ve become. The pride soon disappeared with her next words ‘you’re ready for the trigger injection!’. I’ve heard this sentence many times and I know I should feel happy because it means the sperm will be inseminated the next day but it just freaks me out. It began wit ..read more

HCG Trigger Injection Tips and Facts

I’ve now tried 2 different hCG trigger injections so was fascinated to know which one was best? Here’s the important tips and facts I discovered: 1) BRANDS: There are many brands of the trigger e.g. Ovidrel, Novarel, Ovarel, Profasi and Pregnyl. But they are all essentially the hCG hormone and they do the same job: helps both mature and release the eggs. They seem to have different quantities of hCG and some RE’s give you one brand for IUI and one for IVF. 2) PRODUCT: Not all pharmacies carry the hCG trigger so I had to go to a specialist. Brands like like Novarel use natural hCG extracte ..read more

Happy 2017! My vision, fears, and a possible FET

As myself, Simone and our husbands kick off the new year off in Hawaii (not a bad start for 2017), a few thoughts for the upcoming year enter my mind. How can these visions NOT pop into my head when everywhere I look I am reminded about resolutions of weight loss, new goals, and new beginnings? I can’t recall keeping any resolutions I’ve made in the past, so unsuccessfully accomplishing goals is a recipe for disappointment. No thanks. Instead, I envision what 2017 could possibly look like. Will a new job opportunity present itself? Will our family finally move neighbor ..read more

LOLZ at the RE’s
Bubbles and Bumps | fertility treatment

The fertility clinic is usually such a sterile, dull, predictable place to hang out. No-one looks you in the eye, no-one smiles and no-one would dare crack a joke. I wonder if it’s because they don’t want to trigger an emotional breakdown with a patient who is ready to explode from hormones and bursting ovaries? As I was pulling up my sleeve to have yet more blood taken, I spotted this sign on the wall. I thought it was another boring warning so I was pleasantly surprised when it wasn’t.  It even made me laugh, which is rare especially at the clinic. I thought well at least they have a se ..read more

To bonk or not to bonk? Do you play by the rules if your RE says avoid unprotected sex?

THE DILEMMA: I’m facing the weirdest dilemma at the moment so I want to put it out there and ask what would you do in my shoes? My fertility doctor just told me that I should avoid unprotected sex when I next ovulate. I looked at her confused and thought how is that supposed to get me pregnant? Are you expecting an immaculate conception here? But she explained it’s because of the septate uterus resection I recently had (a procedure to fix a cartilage layer covering the back of the uterus that increases miscarriage rate). So she wants me to be fully healed before I try to ge ..read more

When Cam and I heard about this fertility retreat in the Hollywood hills we knew it sounded like a great idea but it was even better than we expected (see VIDEO below). The day was organized by health retreat queens Julie and Candice of ‘Birds of a Feather’ and led by celebrity Doula & healer Lori Bregman, fertility acupuncturist Laura Erlich, and Crystal healer Heather Askinosie. It started off by a little group introduction which turned into a deeper ‘getting to know you’ session, this was a really healing start and so interesting to talk and hear about all the different storie ..read more
