Joe Biden’s gun control plan will cost me more than $30,000
The Gun Writer
by Lee Williams

The centerpiece of Vice President Joe Biden’s gun control plan is to force all “assault weapons” and magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds under the regulatory authority of the National Firearm Act of 1934. That means that gun owners would have to pay a $200 tax on every firearm that meets the definition of an “assault weapon” — I’m aware there and a host of problems with this definition — and a $200 tax on every magazine that can hold 11 or more rounds. As it stands now, if you violate the NFA you could face up to 10 years in a federal prison and a $10,000 fine, so the law is nothing to ..read more

The dumbest thing I have ever seen: Berkeley’s unarmed crisis responders
The Gun Writer

It’s pretty easy to understand nowadays why some communities want to change or reform the way they are policed.  The pendulum is swinging away from the ninja-like over-militarization of law enforcement and returning toward a peace officer mindset. This, in my humble opinion, is a good thing and long overdue. However, in Berkeley, the change they have planned is so outrageous and so ill conceived, the pendulum has swung completely off the damn clock. In fact, I hope they’re stocking up on body bags because they’re going to need a lot of them. Berkeley is creating a special force of unarmed ..read more

Brandishing — how to go from victim to defendant in one easy step
The Gun Writer

By now, everyone on the planet has seen the pictures and video of Mark and Patricia McCloskey, the affluent couple who stood defiantly outside their St. Louis home a few weeks ago armed with an AR and a handgun, after a mob of hundreds battered down an iron gate and gained access to their private community. In some of the pictures you can clearly see Patricia McCloskey pointing her handgun at the protesters with her finger on the trigger. Her husband, too, appears to point his rifle at the mob on several occasions. On Saturday morning we learned that St. Louis police served a search warrant a ..read more

Breaking: Florida Ag Commish Nikki Fried reopens online CCW application process
The Gun Writer

Lee’s note: At a press conference Thursday, Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried announced that her office will reopen the online portal for concealed weapons license applications. The move came after the gun rights group Young Americans for Liberty sued Fried, saying she violated residents’ rights. Fried described the suit as “frivolous” at the press conference, I’m told. Here’s Fried’s press release of the event: Commissioner Nikki Fried Announces Reopening of Tallahassee Regional Office, Return of Online Concealed Weapons Licensing Tallahassee, Fla. — Today, Agri ..read more

Why not just shoot the gun out of their hand?
The Gun Writer

There are arguments that can be made that betray someone’s complete ignorance on matters tactical. Longtime shooters have heard them all, and they almost always cause a chuckle and an eye roll. Former Vice President Joe Biden parroted one of the more common misconceptions just the other day, when he suggested that police should be trained to shoot someone who is “unarmed” with a knife — yep, unarmed with a knife — in the leg as opposed to center mass. Everyone with even a shred of tactical training just rolled their eyes, again. It’s not the first time the good Veep has shared his vast tactica ..read more

Results of 4-year study on handgun red dots by Sage Dynamics
The Gun Writer

Here’s an incredible piece of work from Sage Dynamics. Click here for the results of a four-year study on the use of red dots on handguns. The monumental 64-page report is the work of Aaron Cowan, a Sage Dynamics instructor. Mr. Cowan geared the report toward law enforcement, but anyone with a red dot or considering purchasing a red dot should most definitely read the piece. Mr. Cowan’s findings are not surprising — shooters using red dots on their handguns are faster and more accurate — but he doesn’t stop there. Mr. Cowan tests and evaluates all of the leading red dot models, and he doesn’t ..read more
