The Cambridgeshire Deaf Association is launching a new Friendship Club, a new initiative designed to support the mental well-being of people that are losing hearing and reduce the risk of dementia in the Peterborough area.  The club will open its doors 1pm on the 8th of January at the Park Inn Hotel in Peterborough. In the UK, an estimated 12 million individuals experience hearing loss, yet only 40% of those who need hearing aids utilise them. Fil Kamps Passionate public servant is the new chair of trustees at Cambridgeshire deaf charity. Cambridgeshire Deaf Association has elected Fil Kamps as it’s new Chair of trustees, replacing Janie Anderson, who steps aside after 10 years and becomes lead safeguarding trustee.  Fil was born deaf and has represented England and Great Britain deaf football teams at the World Cup and Deaflympics. Roger Hill, the former Chairman of Cambridgeshire Hearing Help, is to receive the British Empire Medal from the Queen in recognition of his work with the organisation which has supported thousands of deaf people over the years in Cambridgeshire. Recently the charity merged with the Cambridgeshire Deaf Association to create an all-encompassing, go-to place for support for anyone with deafness or hearing loss in Cambridgeshire. Cambridgeshire deaf charities merge to create one-stop shop for those with hearing loss or deafness in the county. Cambridgeshire Deaf Association and Cambridgeshire Hearing Help are merging at the end of the month to create an all-encompassing, go-to place for support for anyone with deafness or hearing loss in Cambridgeshire.
