YARMOUTH, Maine—Jim Henry, a 2014 SSI Industry Hall of Fame inductee and 50-year veteran of the security industry, died Sunday, April 13, after a lengthy illness at the age of 70.
Henry spent more than 32 years at Henry Bros. Electronics, Inc., starting as key account applications engineer in June 1978 before being elevated to president in October 1989 and chief executive officer from November 2001 through December 2010.

SILVER SPRINGS, Md. — The deadline for the 2024 Security Industry Association (SIA) Talent Inclusion Mentorship Education (TIME) program applications is Friday, April 26.

McLEAN, Va. – The Monitoring Association (TMA) and Security Sales & Integration today announced the finalists for the 2024 TMA/SSI Monitoring Technology Marvel Award.
This year’s finalists are Elite Interactive Solutions, Inc.; Rapid Response Monitoring; and Stealth Monitoring.
National Monitoring Center was the 2023 Marvel Award winner.
The award “honors innovations in monitoring center technology,” according to the joint announcement. It is co-sponsored by TMA and SSI and coordinated by the TMA Technology Committee.

This year will be very busy as regards the development of codes and standards. NFPA 72, National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code 2025 edition, will come up final adoption during the NFPA Annual Meeting this June in Orlando, Fla.
In future articles, I will cover some of the changes that will be in the next edition.

Every properly worded alarm contract must contain provisions that disclaim liability for torts [negligence].
Having a paragraph heading isn’t enough. Courts will look for ways to refuse to enforce a contract that seeks to disclaim liability for negligence; simple as that. That can be in the alarm industry or other industries. Some industries cannot have such contractual disclaimers, but the alarm industry can, should and does.
But there are basically two ways to word these “contractual disclaimers for tort”:
