Spring training is full go at this point. The Cincinnati Reds have played four games, and they’ve won three of them. With that, there are always stories coming out of Goodyear and Charlie Goldsmith of the Cincinnati Enquirer had one this morning about “the resurgence of the bunt in the Reds organization”. That came after a video was circulating the day before of Brett Butler working with Elly De La Cruz on a practice field, trying to improve his bunting technique. The video seemed to get many people riled up. And you can understand that a little bit – De La Cruz can hit the baseball to the moo ..read more

The Cincinnati Reds played two games today – their first split squad set of games of the spring. They barely avoided being no-hit in a their game against Seattle, but the offense showed up against the Brewers. Game Recap: Mariners 2 – Reds 0 For much of the game this was as much of a pitchers duel as you could imagine – at least in a game where there were a lot of pitchers. Seattle had two hits through seven innings and the Reds didn’t have any. The Mariners finally broke through with the help of Cincinnati’s defense to score two unearned runs in the 8th. In the bottom of that inning the Reds ..read more

Will Benson’s homer fuels a Reds 4-0 shutout win over Cleveland

Payback can be a good feeling and Will Benson may have been feeling pretty good as he crushed a long home run to put the Cincinnati Reds on top of the team that traded him away a year ago. The Cleveland Guardians offense never got going as Cincinnati picked up a victory in the spring training opener. Game Recap: Reds 4 – Guardians 0 Will Benson got the scoring started with an absolute laser of a home run. Unknown at the time, but that single run would be enough to get the job done as the Cincinnati Reds seven pitchers combined for a shutout as the club’s offense tacked on three more runs – all ..read more

The Cincinnati Reds must have gotten a check today because they’ve now signed two different players. Earlier today they brought in utility man Tony Kemp on a minor league deal. They followed that up with a minor league deal for first baseman Mike Ford. Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that he will get $1,300,000 if he makes the big league club and could get another $125,000 in performance incentives. Ford also has opt-outs in his contract, with at least one of them being during an unspecified date in spring training. In 2023, Mike Ford played in 83 games with the Seattle Mariners.
