We need your help urgently. Please send a message to Governor Pritzker today through our partner, IARF, and stop the elimination of Direct Support Professional (DSP) hours in community-based residential settings for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in Illinois.
DSPs are the foundation of IDD agencies, providing 24/7/365 support to people with IDD. Looking back on this past year, our JJ’s List team is so grateful for all that we have accomplished. Thank all of our amazing partners who made this year’s successes possible! Our Disability Awareness Trainings trained many organizations throughout Chicagoland in 2023, including the Museum of Science & Industry, the Goodman Theatre and the Shedd Aquarium. We also piloted our NeurodiVERSED training offering at 2 schools, receiving great feedback. Finally, our Hop on the Bus training was presented to 17 different partners. Ignite, one of our Search Day programs, went on many adventures this summer. They explored the Chicagoland area by going to plays, movies, restaurants, and beaches and more. They are excited to share their experience and they had so much fun! Read on to hear more about summer with Search.
What was your favorite adventure this summer?
Becky: Loyola Beach, I got go knee-deep into the water. At Benihana, the hibachi grill was cool and I liked yakisoba noodles. Seeing the Barbie movie at the AMC Theatre in Evanston.

Pride month is bittersweet for LGBTQIA+ community. It is a time of rememberance for what occurred during the Stonewall riots and discrimation that our community has faced. It is a time to recognize the pain and limitations our community continues to face. It is also a time of celebration on how far we have come to acceptance and the rights we finally have access to, allowing our community to come together and shine our true colors.

June 19, 1865 commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. Although slavery is not discussed in history classes, being able to educate the clients about a significant historical event was exciting.
Surprisingly, Juneteenth is not as well-known as the Fourth of July amongst the individuals we serve. For some, this was the first time they have celebrated this holiday.
