Feel Good Friday – Meeting my teacher
Martyn Sibley

Last summer on holiday in Poland I was reflecting on various things. One such reflection was on how it’d been just over 20 years since I’d gone to uni to study economics. It reminded me of Mr Sanderson. My GCSE business studies and A level Economics teacher. I realised how his teaching had shaped and inspired so much of my life over the past 2 decades. Not only did he teach the subject I received my bachelors degree in, it’s a topic I’ve used again and again in the pursuit of a fully inclusive world. Plus I’ve ended up running multiple businesses and even teaching others these principles more ..read more

If you haven’t already seen on my social channels, I’ve been back in to podcasting recently. Both on my own Martyn Sibley show, and as a guest on other shows too. Recently I had a great conversation with Keely Cat Wells on her entrepreneurial journey, and her new start-up on the block, with Sophie Morgan, called Making Space. We talked about so many interesting and impactful things on the episode. You can hear the whole podcast here https://open.spotify.com/episode/7ncpdMN6yJCCqXgJBXGVbZ?si=OZsFcToqSBWTBi0BfWwz3A And for captions with the video please head here https://youtu.be/uNMhGz6q5YE?si ..read more

Disability and entrepreneurship. Disabled founders. Business owners with a long term health condition. There’s so much to unpack in these words right!? To speak to it from personal experience, I just wanted to share two things I’ve done in this space the past week. 1) Today I delivered my first university lecture for Leicester business school and Ability Connect. The Entrepreneurs with Disability Development Programme (EDDP) was created by the amazing Mark Esho. I was proud to deliver the marketing module this morning about my entrepreneurial journey and balancing my wellbeing along the way. 2 ..read more

I’ve been working on and involved in some really high level disability inclusion projects recently. It’s so fascinating taking a problem, considering all the stakeholders involved, creating answers that attempt to work for everyone, accepting any progress is better than none, and bringing it to the world. With all these challenges, variables and executing of solutions, I’ve found less time for contemplating and sharing my more personal stories. I say this because I love writing and really want to get back to more of it. Beyond that I know there’s lots of things my community would enjoy reading ..read more

Calling Disabled Founders

One thing that caught my attention last year, that didn’t quite make my year in review post, was the amazing opportunities evolving for disabled founders and entrepreneurs. When I look back at Srin Madipalli and I starting Disability Horizons and Accomable, we did find general business support, but very little was disability specific. Funding and investment was also a challenge, which is something I’ll focus on in a later post. The great news regarding specific support for disabled founders is that it’s coming in abundance! One particular program you or your network might be interested in is t ..read more

These past few days have been amazing. Having some space from the day to day routine. Reflecting on the year that’s about to finish. Making new plans and dreaming big for 2024. Hanging with loved ones over the festive period. My social media usage and content creation has always been for my purpose and passion around disability inclusion. Of course I’ve written and shared some things about friends and family over the years. But it’s never been my personal focus online. Having written a couple of year end posts about some of my personal challenges and about Purple Goat as a change making busine ..read more

In April 2020 Arron and I announced the launch of the world’s first and only disability-led, social-first marketing agency. The aims were simple: Close the gap of representation for disabled people in advertising Hire the world’s best marketing and disability talent in our agency Use the carrot, not the stick, to bring to life the theoretical business case for brands (clients get amazing return on investment and on ad spend) Create more economic opportunities for disabled talent and media professionals Empower disabled role models to positively influence the next generation of disable ..read more

The hidden challenges behind a photo from a San Marino stage

For those of you who started following me more recently (and a general update for those who’ve followed me longer) I wanted to share a bit more behind the scenes and some personal insights in to my life. I still plan to do a ‘PG year in review and thoughts for 2024’ type post in the week about the business. But this felt important to share first. I briefly mentioned my visit to San Marino for the UN World Tourism Organisation conference in November. So instead of only explaining and summarising some things around my health, disability, and two years of challenges. It made sense to explain the ..read more

I can’t believe we’re almost at the end of 2023 already! So much has happened for me this year, indeed for disabled people, and disability inclusion in general. For those who knew me and followed me before the Purple Goat tsunami hit the world in 2020, you’ll remember me being in a different country each month, on a different speakers stage every other month, with regular media appearances sprinkled in for good measure. All shared through my regular written, photo and video content on socials. For all sorts of reasons (a pandemic, growing a global business, and navigating some personal challen ..read more
