Ice hockey is the ultimate team sport.  Even Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin need to pass the puck in order to provide themselves with the opportunity to score as many goals as they do, and allow their teams a greater chance of winning. Learning how to work as a team is crucial to playing ice hockey.  Every player has a different set of skills and weakness, which can be combined and leveraged to elevate the collective performance and effectiveness of the group at large.  The same principle can be applied to many people in many fields: coaches, musicians, businesspeople, and in t ..read more

Gearing up for Ladakhi Hockey
The Hockey Foundation Blog

Our gear donations and development camps are now shifting to the Himalayan hockey hotbed of Ladakh, which sport a few outdoor rinks, some with breathtaking scenery and adjacent to ancient Buddhist monasteries. Access to equipment and many other resources are tough in higher altitude places like Ladakh, but hockey has been popular there since the 1970s. We are continuing to work with SECMOL (Students' Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh), which was founded in 1988 by a group of young Ladakhis to reform the educational system of Ladakh. SECMOL's website does a great job ..read more

THF in India: Past, Present & Future

That trip was hastily organized on my part, to say the least. I showed up in India without a sleeping bag, but with a ton of idealism...and a bag of hockey equipment to donate to SECMOL (Students' Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh), the school that inspired me to travel halfway around the world to play and coach hockey ..read more

Hopefully by now you've seen our new video: How Hockey Helps. This video was the culmination of many laborious hours (aka weeks) combing through months (aka years) of footage since my initial trip to the Himalayas in 2009.  My incredible team at The Hockey Foundation wanted to make sure we did things right before we were finally ready to share what we consider a very special video.  "How Hockey Helps" is the product of 7+ years supporting ice hockey in India, as well as my experiences a decade ago coaching in China on behalf of the New York Islanders' Project Hope, combined with man ..read more

For some, the stakes are high to become a pro hockey player in India, where The Hockey Foundation has been part of trying to solidify a structure that supports the game's growth. Our founder Adam Sherlip helps tell the story of one young player's journey in this powerful report by 101 East on the path to making India's National Ice Hockey Team.   India is a country where cricket is a religion and the players are seen as gods. But it's also a place where a ragtag team of 22 men are fighting to put their sport - ice hockey - on the map ..read more
