I truly believe that time flies to the end of the school year once we pass March Break. I can't believe I'm typing up weekly plans for the middle of April already! These past few weeks have been a little interrupted with Easter and then the solar eclipse which made them shorter weeks at school so you will notice we didn't change too many centres around our classroom this week. The sensory bin was probably THE most popular centre we had! Here's a look at our centres this week: What can you build using metal parts? Can you create a flower arrangement? Can you make perfume using dri ..read more

It's such an exciting week ahead as we prepare for the solar eclipse! Monday will only be a half day (morning) for the students. We will be reading a book and watching a video to help us understand this amazing natural phenomena!  Here's a little craft we will be making this week too! Tape the circle to your black construction paper. Use oil pastels to colour around the circle and then use your fingers to smudge it! Here's a look at our centres this week: We added small foam blocks to our water bin along with plastic people.  Can you build a boat for the people? What can you bui ..read more

I hope everyone enjoyed the Easter long weekend! Can you believe it's already April? I know it doesn't really feel like spring yet but the weather is set to warm up later this week so I will take that! This is a short week coming up so we didn't switch up that many of our centres as last week was also short. Here's a look at our centres this week: We turned our Dramatic Play Centre into a Bakery! Students have been "baking" a lot while playing in here over the past few weeks and our lunch time supervisor donated a play coffee machine so we knew this centre would be a hit! You can see mo ..read more

This week coming up is definitely one of my favourite times of the year - Holy Week! We have planned many activities that focus on Easter (religious and non-religious) for our students. We will be making these beautiful Easter cards for our families using a technique where marbles are rolled around in paint. This is our craft - a simple Easter cross with gems. We will be listening to many Easter stories including this book, Benjamin's Box, which is one of my favourites! We use Resurrection Eggs to retell the story. It's always a hit in our class! We will also be reenacting the ..read more

We are back from our March Break trip to Mexico and I'm not going to lie...after a week away in the sun doing just about nothing but snorkeling and sun tanning, this week may be a little rough! HA! Good thing we planned some quick and easy centres before we left to help everyone (educators included!) with the transition back to school. We will be welcoming spring on Tuesday this week so we set out a bunch of activities! I'm going to be reading the students the story Mouse's First Spring on Monday (see my plans below) and then they can retell the story on the felt board. I made these cut ..read more

This is the last week of school before we head into March Break for a week.  We are also heading on a half day field trip so we decided to keep things a little simple! We are heading to the Kortright Centre for their Maple Syrup Festival later this week and I couldn't be more excited...I LOVE maple syrup! We set up a simple invitation for students to draw what they see/think/wonder about maple syrup at the Science and Discovery Centre. We will be reading these books, as well as watching a fun video also! Check out my plans for more! St. Patrick's Day falls during March Break so we deci ..read more

Happy Family Day long weekend! I hope everyone is relaxing and able to spend much deserved time with their families! This week coming up is a short one (and somewhat less chaotic than the past few weeks! LOL). We finished our Lunar New Year dragons that we started last week and put them on display. Look how beautiful they came out! We also started our Lenten Chain last week - each day throughout Lent we will be removing one link and trying that challenge! Each week we will be focusing on lessons and activities from my Lent & Holy Week pack if you wish to follow along ..read more

This is going to be (yet another!) busy week ahead! We have our Book Fair, Shrove/Pancake Tuesday, Ash Wednesday and Valentine's Day all within a few days of each other! Here's a look at our centres this week: Our poem is super fun this week - with a focus on pancakes! After learning it, students will partner up and get 1 bean bag (or "pancake"). As we chant the poem and say the words "toss a pancake", one partner will throw the "pancake" to their partner who will try and catch it! Then they switch! It's a lot of fun! This squishy pancake was gifted to me by Ms. B. a few years ago and I alw ..read more

It's February! This month has so many fun celebrations - Valentine's Day, Carnival/Carnevale, Lunar New Year, Shrove Tuesday/Ash Wednesday and our grade 1 friends are celebrating the 100th day of school! Oh, and the Scholastic Book Fair will be arriving in the next few weeks also!!! Here's a look at our centres this week: Our poem this week is called I Like Hearts. I set up this retell centre at the Felt Board. All of my poems are from my Rhyme & Chime (Poems for the Whole Year) pack. We will also be making Valentine's Day cards to give to our families! They are very simple - we will ..read more

When we started to plan for this week, Mrs. Petrone (the DECE who works with me) and I couldn't believe that it's already Groundhog Day this coming Friday! Not to mention Lunar New Year, Valentine's Day, Carnival/Carnevale and Shrove Tuesday are all coming up within the next couple of weeks! Oh my, is it ever a busy time of year! Our poem this week focuses on Groundhog Day. We will also be reading a few different books/watching videos about Wiarton Willie and making this fun craft. You can read all about how to make this and download it for FREE by clicking on my blog post HERE. Here's a l ..read more
