How do I help my 81-year-old friend who has lost all joy in life
I’m in my forties and have a close friend who in the last year has had several debilitating injuries, mostly from falling. He fractured a femur over a year ago and has not regained much mobility. This is affecting his life in that he is now basically home-bound. He was also diagnosed with diabetes and has a wound that simply won’t heal to the extent that he has weekly appointments for wound care. He has become very depressed and expresses the desire to “just die already” every time I talk to him or text. He has managed to aliena ..read more

My (F57) husband (M75) and I have been together 20 years. For many, many years, it felt like there was no age gap at all -- we were at the same place in terms of our lives, we had similar interests, and so on.
Within the last year or so, that has changed, and the age gap has become really noticeable. I am still interested in living a full life; he is not. His world is shrinking, he has very few interests any more. I have tried and tried to help him find things that feed his soul -- hobbies, volunteering, friends, education, and more. He is either not interested at all or says he is interested ..read more

Lately it seems I hear weekly about someone I grew up with dying. It is damn depressing and every time I get together with friends I feel like we look around at each other and think “who is next?” I want to grow older but burying my friends is no fun at all.

I've always been our money manager. I'm 14 years younger than him, and worked in IT. Nearly ALL of our asset/account access is online. "Write up how to access everything, in case you die!," they say.
How do you do this when your spouse is a complete technophobe? (e.g., constantly putting his phone into airplane mode without knowing it then freaking out that his phone isn't working)
I have a write-up showing where everything is - but explaining how to actually access it is a whole different thing. We have no kids, no nearby relatives, he has no friends. I'm thinking it might have to be a lawye ..read more

i’m 36 years old and for the past couple of years i’ve spent more days than not worrying about aging.
when i was younger, i looked forwards to the future because of who i might become and what i might accomplish. but now the future only seems to offer scary and painful things, such as physical and mental degradation, losing people and things that you love, etc.
i know you can put in effort to take care of yourself, and that some people get lucky and age better than others, but everyone has to face aging itself eventually and there’s nothing anyone can do about that.
i had a brief period in my ..read more

I imagine you will still get wrinkles around the mouth from the sucking motion, possibly worse than from cigarettes because it is more accessible to do. Has anyone who vaped noticed worse aging from vaping? I feel like it is probably still bad for aging but not as bad as cigarettes because there is less toxins and apparently 95% safer than smoking cigarettes. I am working on a plan to quit for the third and final time but am very curious of the aging effects.
