Every May, the Administration for Community Living (ACL) leads the nation’s observance of Older Americans Month (OAM). The 2024 theme is Powered by Connection, which recognizes the profound impact that meaningful relationships and social connections have on our health and well-being.
ACL will explore the vital role that connectedness plays in supporting independence and aging in place by combatting isolation, loneliness, and other issues.

The Mayors Innovation Project announced a new cohort of local leaders for the second annual Mayors Institute on Pedestrian Safety. The program, in partnership with AARP Livable Communities and Smart Growth America, selected 10 mayors from a national competitive application pool of candidates to join this year’s cohort and two are from Massachusetts.
Both mayors – from Salem and Chicopee – represent communities working to become more age-friendly.

Over 30% of older adult caregivers report simultaneously receiving care for their own daily activities, according to a report published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society.
Caregiving was defined by self-reported assistance of another adult with day-to-day activities due to age or disability; overlapping care-receiving was defined by simultaneous receipt of help for at least one activity of daily living (ADL) or independent ADL (IADL).

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced the five-week public comment period for “Beyond Mobility,” the Massachusetts 2050 Transportation Plan. The Point32Health Foundation announced 20 grants totaling more than $2 million to nonprofit organizations advancing equity in aging and social and racial justice initiatives.
