Revival at Asbury College.

You might have seen news about a revival happening now at Asbury College, which is located only a 40 minutes drive from our church. A normal midweek chapel service blossomed into an on-going prayer and worship meeting, which at this time is still going on. Their chapel is full, and God seems to be doing something special. These are just some thoughts about revival. I am not yet planning on going down to Asbury, because I don't want to go "see something." It's a spiritual revival, not a show or a performance, and I don't want to gawk. This is similar to why I would not attend an evangelistic ..read more

No Place For Race Hatred In the Kingdom of God.

There is no place for racial hatred in the kingdom of God. Christians are creationists. We believe that God wrote through His prophet Moses. Moses revealed that God created one original man, named Adam. From that one man all other human beings descended, from every tribe, language, and nation. We are all of one blood. This is why in reality there are not multiple races. There is only one race -- the human race.  Christians also believe in redemption. As the apostle Paul wrote, there is in Christ neither Jew or Gentile, bond or free, male or female, but all are one in Christ Jesus. Every ..read more

Generational Curse?
Ironworks Pike Community Church Blog

For some reason, the subject of generational curses comes across my path from time to time. This doctrine depresses the spirit and strangles faith, since we're helpless to change the actions of our ancestors! So here are some truths from Scripture that counter it. The only generational curse in the Bible was caused by Adam. Because he represented us before God, his one bad action cut all of us off from God. Romans 5:15-19. But Adam was unique. The Bible says the natural world was cursed because of Adam's sin, and so nature groans (Romans 8:18-22). This is why we can inher ..read more

Thankful for America.

As we get ready to begin the month of November, and approach that uniquely American holiday, Thanksgiving, I would like to share a few words about being thankful for America. As we have eyes to see, we can see God's natural and spiritual graces bestowed upon America, in our history as well as now. These have come from God, and reflect back on His goodness. We don't deserve His gifts, but He has given them out of His generous heart. I give thanks for all of these. God has greatly blessed America. There are people who burn with hatred for America, and they cite our country's many sins. Sometim ..read more

How Should Christians Regard Government?
Ironworks Pike Community Church - Pastor's Blog
by

Government is a necessary good. It's unscriptural to call government a necessary evil. God is the Author of government itself, so how can we hate government? That would be like hating marriage. God Himself is the greatest of Kings. He sits on His heavenly throne, and His government rules over the affairs of men. He is served by innumerable angels, who are organized in governmental rank under archangels like Michael and Gabriel. God created Adam and Eve to govern the world, and He proclaimed that arrangement good. Government is embedded into the nature of mankind's relationship to the earth ..read more

Why Christians Oppose Abortion.

Here are some reasons why Christians oppose abortion. 1.  We are anti-death as a matter of general principle. God throughout the Bible describes Himself as the living God. He is the Author of life. Christ raised people from the dead, He Himself rose from the dead, and defeated death for all who call on Him. Given what God is, how could we celebrate killing and death? 2.  We are anti-murder. God said, "Do not commit murder" (Exodus 20:13, Deuteronomy 5:17). The Bible permits the taking of human life under strict circumstances. Human life may be taken when it is a punishment for an a ..read more

The Disaster of the Sexual Revolution.

The Apostle Paul had this to say about Pride Month: "I have often told you before and now say again, even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame."  Philippians 3:18-19. The 1960s were not the first bloom of sexual revolution in the United States. Without going through a tedious academic review, it's sufficient to say that the U.S. continued to liberalize its sexual practices throughout the 20th century, under the influence of numerous sources. The results were, and have been, d ..read more

The Kentucky Tornadoes.

There is a time to wax philosophical about life's disasters, and there are times to roll up our sleeves and help. The second is this time, especially for western Kentucky. Donations can be made through Samaritans Purse, or the American Red Cross. It is impossible to answer the question, "Why did God allow this to happen?"  One would have to be God, to answer that question. Usually, some of those answers only come in hindsight. But we should hear what the Bible says: this is a broken world, where terrible things happen. Jesus the Son of God chose to be born into this world, in o ..read more

A Creationist Cannot Be A Race-Hater.

A consistent Christian creationist cannot harbor hatred toward other tribes or skin-colors. The Bible is very clear all throughout that all humanity originally springs from one man. God through Moses revealed that the man's name was Adam. We first read about him in Genesis 1-4. Jesus Christ regarded Adam as a real person. He based some of His teachings about marriage on the marital example of Adam and Eve. The apostle Paul treated Adam as real as well. The Genesis genealogies trace back to Adam. Adam's historical example carries no moral authority if he was mythological, any more than if I w ..read more

Why Being Pro-Life Is A Christian Ethical Essential.

Our denomination follows a solidly conservative, Biblical, and evangelical statement of faith; you can read it here on our website, or at www.efca.org. And as a general rule, we don't wade deep into politics, if at all.  We do not endorse candidates, and I as pastor don't tell people how to vote though I will share my personal opinion. When I preach, I stick to the Bible text, and deliberately steer a middle course. I make it a policy to not make fun of political viewpoints I don't agree with. We're a church that welcomes Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and Undecideds, as long as t ..read more
