A word about drug prices.  The prices for any prescription can vary widely between different pharmacies.  Just because you have a “drug plan” doesn’t mean it will get you the best price for your prescription.  Everyone should be aware of the web site GoodRx.com.  Look up your prescription on that site.  Sometimes the cash price for a medicine with a coupon from GoodRx is cheaper than your drug plan price. “I am writing in reference to the surgical procedure you performed on me inserting an Ahmed tube and reservoir in my right eye on April 23, 2019. The purpose of this procedure was to provide a more permanent reduction in the interocular pressure to help avoid damage to the eye from glaucoma. I am pleased that the whole procedure was performed in a very professional way both by you and the staff at the surgery center.  I found the procedure to be both painless and lasting less than half an hour. After a brief recover time from the sedation, my friend drove me home. I am pleased to rep ..read more

Since November 2005, Dr. Hurt has been making a yearly medical mission trip to Haiti.  While in Haiti, he stays at an orphanage in St. Ard, just outside of Archiaie.  Within the orphanage compound there is a medical building where he holds some of his eye clinics.  Most days he goes out to other sites where he sets up an examination lane and eyeglass dispensary.  Usually, these locations are concrete block churches.  Sometimes, they are more remote places where the only buildings are lean-to structures made of poles and woven rattan planks. Dr Hurt takes about 1,000 pa ..read more

Spring is in the air and with spring comes outdoor sports.  Unfortunately, approximately 42,000 sports eye injuries occur in the United States every year.  Many result in permanent vision loss.  Yet, today’s athletes have a number of eye protectors available to them, none of which hinder performance. In recognition of April’s designation as Sports Eye Safety Month, the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Eye M.D.s across the nation urge all athletes to wear appropriate protective eyewear. “Protective eyewear can prevent up to 90 percent of sports eye injuries and I have been a ..read more

Last year, approximately 6,400 Americans spent part of their Fourth of July holiday in the emergency room, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).  Despite warnings to consumers on the dangers of fireworks, the number of injuries every year has remained relatively steady.
