Mourning Art - Invitational Exhibit- April 2023
In partnership Falmouth Historical Society and Falmouth Art Center
The idea for the show came from Falmouth Historical Society Executive Director Rachel Lovett. Of the historic pieces in the show, she said, "The art evokes the emotion of loss that transcends 200 years of Falmouth history." Artists Invited to exhibit then created contemporary responses to the theme across a wide range of medium and styles.

For someone who used to be afraid of the dark, I am a true convert to the welcoming beauty of night as it descends around me. The changing atmosphere from dusk to night lends itself to scenes of mystery, quiet contemplation and raucous drama. Nocturne paintings of the landscape, cityscape or interior scenes force the artists to shift value and color choices.

Last evening was the virtual opening of the "For Pastels Only" national juried exhibition. The opening reception is usually held at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod, offering artists a chance to catch up with one another, admire the selected art and applaud those that receive awards for their stellar paintings. Although we missed the opportunity to share our collective joy in pastel painting, the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod hosted a lovely tribute to the virtual exhibit. Many thanks to Jeri Greenberg who viewed over 500 paintings, selecting 100 for inclusion in this exhibit, a not ..read more

"With You By My Side II" - it won't matter where the road takes me, or if storms get in my way, the journey will be my adventure.
A smaller studio painting was the catalyst to paint a larger version, with the feeling to create an expansive horizon, what we dream for and the quest to push forward no matter the obstacles. I made the painting surface with gesso and pumice ground, applied an underpainting with acrylic inks before light strokes of soft pastel.

Framing is one of the chores in my art business that I often reserve for times that aren't conducive to painting. Late afternoon, times when the family are around or when deadlines are closing in. To make it a bit more palatable job, I set a few things in place before I begin. Good music, something to drink, light some incense or a candle and I have created a calm atmosphere. I will often cluster several jobs together so I knock off a few at a time. This means I am standing at the work room table for awhile. I have an old kitchen counter resting on saw horses, ideal surface, easy to clean ..read more
