Wonderful Maine

Well this has been a fun focused period of painting. Since coming back from Maine last September, I have spent some great hours closeted away in my studio. Focusing on producing artworks of Maine, which captivated me with its rugged coastal scenery that is littered with sailboats and trawlers. Too many villages, coves and parks to explore that a return trip is eminent.    The unusual approach that gave this trip so much of my attention and energy was the mode of transport and limitations imposed. You see I made the trip in a Factory Five Replica Cobra-1965 roadster. My husband ..read more

During the coldest weeks of winter, I once again packed up my art studio and headed south. For the first few days, I was glad I had packed my winter painting gear as the temps stayed a little below freezing and the scenery was too beautiful to ignore. I stay in the Emerald Bay area where there is plenty of inspiration to choose from and every year the Florida landscape just keeps getting better and better. Enjoy these new works. They will be on show in my collection of 28 paintings in the Virtual 3D Show, Beautiful Artworks and Good Vibes on the Waters Edge. Scroll down for the show link. G ..read more

Unplanned experiences and encounters are a special part of each day that is captured during the process of painting. My responses to my day must surely come out in my work.   River View at Cedar Bluff Farm, 10" x 10", Oil     I was enchanted by the softness of the light in this early morning view of the river running past Cedar Bluff Farms. I knew that soon the sun would burn through those clouds and steal away the soft nuances I was enjoying. I painted fast to try arrive at the finish as I was so excited to capture the view. I came across a snake spine on the rocks just b ..read more

Searching for more of something found.

Searching is inspired by the work I created during my stay at the Dunes Lakeshore National park. The feeling that there is so much more to paint of my experience during the 2018 and 2019 stay is inspiring. Searching is the first of a series I am working on and only now do I feel I am making the most of the experience. I plan on going back to the area to continue to submerge myself in the park and gather even more studies to expand upon.   Many of my paintings created during the residency hit a mark that went beyond the work I had been creating. Taking my work to a further expressive mark mak ..read more

How becoming a full-time fine artist changed my life part one.

It has not been that long ago that I went full-time into painting and creating art. It feels like this is all I have done all my life. I really had no expectations other than to see my work grow. Don't get me wrong I didn't just start painting and enjoying art 4 years ago. I had studied art in night college out of high school while working as an apprentice finished artist during the day. Art has been my lifetime career and calling and I have never stopped.  To switch from commercial art to fine art full time is a huge change and very different from working as a creative in a commercial capacit ..read more

Tiny Arts and Snippets from Australia in March

Of course I packed my paints in my March trip to Australia to see family. I can still hear the parrots, magpies and cockatoos screeching away at each other as they battled for bird seed set out to attract numerous birds to visit from the inlet to our back yards. We would walk along the beach and come back and enjoy toast and coffee and very quickly we called it the toast coffee and bird show. Even cutting the walks short so we could have more time at sunrise enjoying these crazy parrots. We were lucky to also see pelicans, a wallaby, and several species of birds from that same balcony ..read more

February and fed up with winters bitter cold outside and confining quarters inside. I had to do something. Just back from ten wonderful days painting in Florida I was ready to head to warmer temps within a week and thats exactly what I did. I was very fortunate to be passenger to my husbands retreat in Bakersfield California. We took a long way round going south to avoid a blizzard on our normal route and ended up spending an unscheduled stop in a town called Globe which was right next to Tonto National Forest . it was beautiful to drive through. Four hours out of our way but worth the extra d ..read more

Photo of Dunes Lakeshore National Park Sunset.   2018 didn't disappoint. I spent many weeks painting at various open and juried plein air events, challenging myself on many levels. I had 9 plein air events to go to and made it to 7 of the 9 (sometimes you just cant plan for the unexpected) plus a trip overseas to Australia to see my mother-in-laws retrospective art-show. Of course you cant leave empty handed from a show of a lifetime now can you. I acquired an oil painting of Helens, Balmain Boats, that I had admired for many years and had actually witnessed it being painted, possibly I wa ..read more

Taking Chances

So much to talk about when taking chances with your art. In this case it was to take a chance painting in an area that I didn't know in flooded conditions. I drove past a view which just called to me in every time I drove past but it wasn't obvious how and where I could stop to paint it. It didn't help it was off a busy highway which had a lot of flooding and had water over the highway itself. Determined to take a chance I named the day I would break the routine. Declining to paint at the organized plein air for the day going it alone on my own road so to speak. I found my own road. It was a m ..read more
