This Post is about large practices >$3 million in revenue or high single producers as Docs >$1.5 million
Hoping some high producing Docs will post some pearls of wisdom or if you know of a very successful practice what makes them successful. Hoping to get some discussion and insights for Docs who are motivated to exceed the average OD production.
We are a rural single location that does >$3 million in revenue. I believe the keys to this are a few things.
1.Volume of patients. Being rural there isn't the competition of commercial entities like Costco etc and even minimal Ophthalmology ..read more

I’m in the process of building a digital eye chart, which includes a Lea chart. Does anyone know where I could find SVG copies of the symbols that are used? Or are there any acceptable replacements, as long as the sizes are correct?

Hello! I was wondering what employers usually look for when they hire new grads. Are extracurriculars like club involvement and whatnot taken into consideration? Residency?

I'm currently an optometry student in Aus and I wanted to know where to go and who to ask about the business and more 'corporate' side of optometry. Is franchising a dumb idea? Is the only viable option rural or owning an already established practice?
Genuinely any advice or tips about anything to do with this would be amazing. I'm still fairly early on in my degree and just want a rough picture from an ..read more

I know there are some common answers that will come up, but with how insurance reimbursements have been (or in some cases haven't been) changing with the times I feel this has been coming up more and more recently. Traditionally, it has been that most income for a private practice would come from insurance reimbursements and optical sales. These days it seems that there has been a pivot toward using non-covered services as a way to augment rising personnel and operating costs. I am sure this is not true of every practice and it really depends on the area and demographics. But this raises the ..read more

I run an optical as part of an optometry clinic. We offer high-end products and services. We use "the best" exclusively, eg. Var XR & Sapphire HR for PAL & AR.
I had a QBR with my rep and the subject was brought up of converting all SV lenses to Eyezen/Auto Int SV. After thinking about it it seems like a very good idea to me. All patients who I've fitted for a digital SV have had improvements in strain, distortion, fatigue, and were happy regarding their lens. Additionally the markup will be negligible based on our previous lens pricing relative to the market being a little too high ..read more
