Diabetes Habits (& Thoughts) I’ve Had to Unlearn in Order to Have an A1C Under 6.0%
How do you have an A1C under 6.0%?
If you’re expecting me to say, “your carb count needs to be perfect” or “your pre-bolus time has to be perfect”, then I have a surprise for you… it doesn’t.
Now don’t get me wrong, it certainly helps to have a goo d guesstimate on your insulin needs & insulin timing for a meal or snack, but that’s not going to get you under 6.0%.
I repeat Being more strict on your “carb counting” and pre-bolus timing is not what is going to get you an a1c under 6.0%

Easy Garlic Scape Pesto Recipe
If you’re a garlic lover (like me!) then this garlic scape pesto recipe will become AN ABSOLUTE STAPLE in your home. It comes together so fast and easily and only has 4 ingredients!
Garlic Scapes
Olive Oil
Salt
Nutritional Yeast (or Parmesan Cheese)
What are Garlic Scapes?
Garlic scapes are a part of the garlic plant.
Specifically HARDNECK Garlic.
SOFTNECK Garlic does not produce a scape.
We have a lot of hardneck garlic here in New Hampshire because it’s cold hardy, making it perfect for locations that have short growing seasons.
The garlic you buy at the m ..read more

In the beginning of our T1D journey we’re always very cautious. Especially when it comes to Medical Alert ID.
…Don’t give a correction dose sooner than 3hrs. OK!
…Carry around a glucagon pen wherever you go. WILL DO!
…Wear a medical alert ID. GOT IT!
But overtime, as we get more comfortable with T1D, we get more lax. We bend the rules, we learn how our diabetes works, and we do what makes the most sense for us.
For me (and maybe you too) this meant not wearing a medical alert ID.
Why I Stopped Wearing a Medical Alert ID
I figured the odds of me passing out alone (without someone who knows I h ..read more

Summer 2024 is here and so is a BUNCH of NEW T1D gear!
I love summer T1D swag because this is the time of year that we NEED… and WANT it the most. Our pumps are out, our CGM’s are showing, and we don’t have enough pockets anymore (goodbye winter coats) for our low snacks, receivers, and whatever else we’re trying to carry around.
Thankfully these great companies have answered our call and have come out with killer gear & swag, cool new patterns, and pretty much everything we need to have a smooth T1D summer.
When you’re done reading this article you have to check out my favorite low snac ..read more

Hello and happy Friday!
We’ve made it through the week and are now onto the glorious weekend
Per usual (and very intentionally) we don’t have much going on for weekend plans. We have a BBQ at our neighbors house and I’m taking an herbal tincture making class near me that I am VERY excited about.
But that’s it
In this week’s Life of a T1D Blogger post I wanted to share what a week of our meals looked like.
Meal planning has helped me on SO many levels.
It helps me:
make good food choices
eat dinner at a reasonable hour
eat seasonally
waste less
and it takes out that last-minute/end-of-the-da ..read more

This burger salad recipe is a new favorite of ours! It’s a fibrous twist on a summer classic.
It’s great if you’re trying to limit bread or processes starches because it uses potatoes (in the form of fries – that you’re going to make) for the carbs.
This whole thing whips together in just 35 minutes!
Ingredients
This recipe has three main parts:
Fries
Salad
Dressing
Fries
The homemade French fries consist of:
Potatoes
Coconut Oil
Salt & Pepper
Garlic Powder
Nutritional Yeast (optional, but adds GREAT flavor!)
Salad
Lettuce
Ground Beef (seasoned with salt, pepper, and garlic powde ..read more

The Burger Salad Recipe will post on Tuesday! And the Screaming Omnipod post will go live sometime this month.

Welcome back to another Life as a T1D Blogger post. If you’re new here, welcome! Every Friday I share a little glimpse into my life as a T1D Blogger.
And this week is just a catch up week.
A week where I’m going to catch you up on what’s going on in my life. Right now. Not everything. But some things.
The first thing is the Omnipod 5.
I am currently on Omnipod’s EROS system. The first system. The OG. I love it so much. If I could stay on it, I would.
But they’re discontinuing it, so I must move on.
I just picked up this MASSIVE box. Which is extremely excessive considering the only things in ..read more

This week’s pod decor is one that I don’t think I’ve ever had before.
Shiny Shark Stickers
The artist is my 5 year old son and while I loved how it turned out, I was super sad that it didn’t last past my shower
I also wanted to share a new medical alert bracelet it got.
For years I have worn THIS ONE from RoadID, and I still LOVE it VERY MUCH. But I wanted to have a more feminine / delicate ..read more
