It’s day 4. With all of the research I’ve done, I never thought it would get so hot in a container so small. I filled it all the way up. I’m proud of myself.

I have an unusual application in mind for that heat. I'm just trying to figure out if this will work or not. I'm looking for actual experience or an equation if possible. I found an older document that had the equations but it didn't allow you to copy the actual equations.

I have a chinchilla who, as you might imagine, generates a lot of waste. It's almost entirely made up of his little poops, old hay, and de-barked applewood sticks. I wouldn't be asking this question if I used it in compost for a flower bed or something. But I'm wondering if adding it to the bottom of a raised bed that I plan to grow food in would be safe.

I'll have some fine brick dust soon as I'll be doing some wall chasing. Wondering if this could be added?

Iv been adding to this pile for about 5 days now. I think I got it to a good size. It hasn’t heated up yet that Iv noticed, I’m guessing because I keep adding and turning it everyday? Now that I’m going to let it sit should I only turn it once it’s heated up? Or just turn it once a day? Or should I keep adding every day and get it bigger? Hopefully the baseball on top is clear to see the size

I have an outdoor rotating compost tumbler and when i turned it, a lot of these bugs came out. Is this normal? What are these?

Every time I open my closed compost bin these black flies slowly flutter out of the bin. They hang out on the inside walls of my bin and are a couple cm long. Is this ok? It’s worse when it’s warmer
