18 April, 2024 Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Bolton are enjoying an influx of badminton fever after support from the Badminton England Development Fund. Sports coordinator Parth Pindoria set up weekly community-based badminton sessions at the temple in 2023 and now has over 40 players in attendance each week. The Wednesday night badminton rush has become a key part of the mandir’s new sports programme which is in place to develop the wider community and to promote a more active, healthy and social lifestyle. England claimed 20 titles at the 106th YONEX All England Seniors (Masters) Championships 2024. Hosted in Hatfield, the event saw competitors challenge across 44 events over three days. Debbie Miller and Julie Bradbury triumphed in an all-English final to claim their second Women’s Doubles title in the 55 and over category. Up against the second seeds Jane Ashford and Sara Foster, Bradbury and Miller won 21-19 21-15 in the final. Youngsters were given a day to remember during the YONEX All England as the annual Racket Pack Festival finals took place. 14 April, 2024 Ben Lane and Sean Vendy were foiled by first seeds Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen in the semi-finals of the European Championships in Saarbrücken. Fresh from their Swiss Open victory last month, the third seeds went down to the 2018 European Champions from Denmark 21-19 21-7. 10 April 2024 ​Leinster defended their Under-18 Inter-County Trophy as they beat out 28 other teams in Nottingham. Berkshire claimed second place for just the second time in the history of the tournament as top seeds Yorkshire settled for bronze. The winning Leinster team were made up of Senan O’Rourke, Chloe Mcgrane, Aman Kothiyal, Laura Heery, Pranav Erukattil, Praneel Reddy Vallapureddy, Michelle Shochan, Nicole Joy, Orlaith Evans and Paddy Nolan. What an end it was to this year’s return of the National Badminton League! This was a pilot season for the NBL and congratulations to Team Skyfall who win all three of their fixtures during what was a very closely-fought competition that reached its climax in March. First launching in October 2014, the National Badminton League initially included six franchise teams before expanding to seven by the time it reached its final year in 2017. Robin Harper and Harry Wakefield earned a bronze medal at the Malta International 2024 as they reached the last four. The men’s doubles duo lost out to the top seeds Torjus Flaatten and Begard Rikheim of Norway in the semi-finals after an impressive week in Cospicua.
