I'm a complete novice with clay.
My goal is to make leather masks (sort of comedia del arte style). I started out this project by purchasing Monster Clay (oil based), alginate, plaster bandages, and Hydrocal, with the intent to end up with a positive mold I could use to wet form the leather over. Basically, its the same process as a life cast, but I'm doing in over an armature.

I bought this at an auction in Ohio. The only information that was given was that it was made by Jonathan Gilbert. It freaks some people out which is enjoyable.
I would be interested in knowing if there is a story behind it or any other information.
I believe it’s a sort of paper mache over all and the hair may be a natural fiber. It has 1 actual fake eyelash applied.
Any light you can shine is appreciated.

Perhaps a journey through someone's mind and the fast imagination, or a drawn up concept of the future and exploring concepts of the unknown because for all we know space whales do exist. What d ..read more
