A teen girls’ sleepover in Rockford, Illinois, turned to tragedy as the home they were watching a movie in became the final stop on a murder suspect’s horrific stabbing spree.
Details surrounding the series of attacks in the northern Illinois community were released Thursday, one day after four people were killed and seven others injured at multiple crime scenes.
The crimes unfolded during the afternoon hours Wednesday, with four separate crime scenes reported.

The wife of one of the construction workers who survived the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse says it’s a miracle he is alive as he doesn’t know how to swim.
Julio Cervantes was one of eight construction workers on the bridge when the Dali cargo ship’s lights flickered on and off and crashed into a support pillar, sending the bridge into the Patapsco River in the early hours of Tuesday.
He and another man were rescued that day; the bodies of two more were recovered Wednesday. The remaining four have not been found but are presumed dead.

Dozens of schools across Illinois have announced plans to close for the upcoming total solar eclipse on April 8.
According to the Illinois State Board of Education, more than 70 school districts in the state have listed a “not in attendance” day on April 8. (See the full list below)

The Illinois Department of Transportation is warning of heavy traffic across the state — especially in southern Illinois, near Carbondale — when a total solar eclipse takes place on April 8.
“The 2024 solar eclipse will be visible over approximately 128 miles of Illinois April 8,” IDOT said in a post. “Totality enters Illinois as it crosses the Missouri state line southwest in Carbondale at 1:58 p.m. The eclipse will follow a diagonal line crossing over Fairfield and exit Illinois at Mount Carmel at 2:06 p.m.”

Schaumburg police responded to Woodfield Mall Thursday morning for a report of someone threatening to harm people at the popular suburban shopping center.
Police said officers were called to the scene around 10 a.m. after a “male subject” threatened to harm others. The person was quickly taken into custody and no injuries were reported.
According to authorities the inside of the mall was searched and “there are no indications of a threat at this time.”

13 states and dozens of cities are in the path of totality for the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse coming up on April 8, and countless other areas will be able to see some of it — including parts of Chicago.
“A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the sun and the Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun,” NASA said.
