Celebrate Duke Ellington with me

I host a weekly stream/radio program that explores the world of jazz funk soul and so much more. I’ve been working on a special episode dedicated to Duke Ellington, whose birthday is April 29th. Tune in live April 29th at 6:30 PST on Twitch.com/diginmusic. Not sure if this kind of self promotion is allowed but I figure jazz heads can appreciate. Thank you! submitted by /u/fixedwithyou [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi all, my son and I are going on a road trip in mid-May and we will be driving for about 30 hours together. He has expressed an interest in Jazz. I have a collection of about 500 jazz records so I have played some stuff for him in the past. This time we will be limited to Spotify since we are driving but I could record some stuff to mp3 and play off my phone if it's not on Spotify. Anyway I'd like to get recommendations of what to play for him. He wants to hear some Charlie Parker, John Coltrane and Miles Davis among other stuff that I like. I have to admit that I have not spent too much tim ..read more

Need help remembering the name of a quartet

I used to be really into this quartet, I think they may have done a TinyDesk concert and that’s how I found them. I cannot remember the name for the life of me. I remember the upright bass player being the leader of the band and he usually wears a white suit and has very long, curly red hair. I know it’s a long shot but any suggestions? submitted by /u/EnvironmentalPhase58 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Just discovered this gem covered by Ella Logan 1939 and wanted to share. The title is actually Are You Havin' Any Fun? It's a good time for those that like 20s and 30s songs. She was on the stage in Finnians Rainbow a few years later. She was also Annie Ross' aunt. submitted by /u/ldf-2390 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
