I'm a drummer who's mainly a fusion head and hasn't sought out much from guitarists, but Pat Metheny's solo on "Song for Bilbao" by Michael Brecker has been stuck in my head for days and I'd like recommendations for guitar stuff now

Youtube recommended me a video the other day titled "When you can't stop playing perfect lines" and boy, was it correctly titled lol I mostly listen to fusion and really like Al Di Meola (early solo stuff and with RtF) and Lee Ritenour (early solo stuff). I also love everything I've heard Bill Connors play on, which is RtF stuff, some Stanley Clarke, and a few of his 80s solo albums. I know he's not really jazz, but Zappa is also a favorite of mine. I've also come to like Allan Holdsworth more these days, and what little Larry Coryell I've heard (couple albums with Seventh House) and Pat Mart ..read more

Thoughts on the album Windflower by Herb Ellis and Reno Palmer?

This is one of the albums that has been floating around thanks to Youtube's algorithms, and I was left not disappointed by its content. My metalhead friends cite this as the album they would play to help them sleep and fully agree with them, and think the title song is a good song that gets slept on by the jazz community at large. My biases dictate that guitars should be for rock music and that if played in jazz, fits best with fusion, until I heard this album which made me see how guitars go just as well for straight-ahead jazz. Yes, I know Barney Kessel and Kenny Burrell, and heard ample am ..read more

I played Herb Ellis and Reno Palmer's Windflower and Miles Davis' Kind of Blue last night which did the trick of making me doze off while enjoying the music. I am looking for albums that has a more straight-ahead vibe as I am more into post-bop. Suggestions of fusion are also welcome. submitted by /u/AutisticAfrican2510 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Recorded Ornithology on a whim tonight on two of my favourite instruments; Chromatic Harmonica and Bari Sax. Didn't really spend very long on this and I was sight reading the harmonica sheet and changes, but I hope you enjoy anyway!

I wanted to share a story with you guys. You'll see why. I'm a 40-something guy from Belgium, and I couldn't care less about jazz. Until a few weeks ago. Let me rephrase: I didn't know anything about jazz, until a few weeks ago, and I had dismissed the entire genre as 'not for me'. But, just like with the sport of baseball a few years ago, I suddenly had the urge to really immerse myself into it and try to, at least, understand why people love this music so much. So I started following this subreddit, I bought books by Ted Gioia, made immense playlists on spotify, read album reviews, etc. etc ..read more
