Hand Fighting: Your opponent is attempting to grab a lapel to choke. What is the legality of grabbing the hand or fingers during Newaza while defending in turtle?
Grabbing: Whole Hand/Palm/Knuckles, or Multiple Fingers (3+), not individual digits.

I'm not a judoist, but I practise a lot of ukemi in my martial arts dojo. Maybe because instructor has judo as its backbone.
To cut to the chase, I was in a bicycle accident today. I wasn't wearing a helmet at the time. I almost collided head-on with a woman on a bicycle, so I panicked and turned the wheel. I don't really remember what happened after that. I just fell to the ground and was in excruciating pain for about 10 seconds and couldn't get up. My elbow and hand were ridiculously torn up. It was probably because the ground was asphalt. The woman panicked and apologised frantically ..read more

I have a herniated disc at L4/L5 and i was wondering if anyone uses a back support while practicing judo? Ive heard conflicting things about using one.
If i were to get one I would probably get the bauerfiend sport back support. If you have better recommendations dations let me know.

It's kind of crazy that some people were able to just get rid of a large aspect of a sport if someone tried to just remove putting from golf or free throws from basketball I feel like people would be up in arms what's the reason they were removed? Did people try to push back against it?

Had a thought and I'm curious about what more experienced members of this community would do.
If the typical practitioner of a given martial art were to come to you asking for help in developing a single Judo technique for their current skillset for an MMA fight or 'street fight', what would you recommend?
So like if a boxer wanted something to mix up with their punching, or a freestyle wrestler looking to spruce their grappling game up. For the fun of it, maybe add weapons martial arts too like Escrima or HEMA.
Not counting Ukemi or any of that, pretend they're just going to leave out of pur ..read more

I'm going to be visiting Korea(Seoul) soon and I'm wondering if there are any good dojos that are foreigner friendly in the area. Also, what does the environment and culture of these dojos look like, especially compared to an American dojo?

39, just started judo. As we all know, it doesn’t feel good on an aging body. Thursday was my 10th practice, and I finally didn’t hurt after class. I know this is a moral victory but it’s great to know my body is adjusting to this new sport we love. To anyone else starting out—it is possible and stick with it.

Hello,
I am new to judo, and the little BJJ and judo experience I have was from over a decade ago. My vocabulary may be deficient.
Two days ago during newaza, my partner almost injured me quite a bit when I was in open guard by pushing down on one of my legs while holding the other leg, thereby kind of forcing me to do the splits. The position was similar to that show in this picture. I can still feel it in my hip joint area today. How can I prevent this sort of injury from occurring? Judo is a tertiary physical hobby for me, and the use of my legs is critical for my primary hobby.
