My MIL is a vegan earth mother spiritual etc human. She knows anything better than others. She told me everything comes from the inside. As my hypothyroidism. She told me I dont need to take levothyroxin, she like literally told me not to take anymore of it. becasue all I have to do is make it go away, I can fix my self, I can heal myself and should do it… ? ok if that was so easy.. shes annoying. I never know what to say when she is like that… and next time it cames up she will say it again. What would you say? submitted by /u/Important_Turnip_927 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Q about low-ish TSH and fT4

original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/endocrinology/s/D673CIMgWa Can anyone help me evaluate whether having a - TSH of 0,72 (0,35-4,94) - fT4 of 8,8 (7-14,6) - fT3 of 2,66 (1,58-3,91) …would be considered normal or slightly abnormal? I realize these are not crazy low values, but I to my untrained eyes shouldn‘t TSH be higher with those lower-ish thyroid hormones and vice versa? I was thinking mild 2ndy/3rdy Hypo BUT I’m lacking comparison and have trouble letting go of this. to quote my original post in r/endocrinology (more detailed), please help / validate / dismiss me with your expertise ..read more

Worth seeing an endocrinologist for help with weight loss?

I have had PCOS and insulin resistance my entire adult life. Now in my late 30s and diagnosed non-Hashimoto hypo last summer. Ever since then I have gained close to 50 pounds without changing my eating habits. I have always had a hard time losing weight bc of the PCOS and insulin resistance, and I was already teetering at 350 pounds before I was hypo. The only diet I have had moderate success with is super calorie-restricted ketogenic (around 1200 calories daily) and even that failed to work around the time my thyroid crapped out last year. My primary physician has thrown out suggestions like ..read more

Just wanting some advice and peoples personal experiences. So I have hashimotos / hypothyroidism and I’m taking 125mcg of levothyroxine daily and have been since my diagnosis 9 years ago. I’m wondering if anyone has any knowledge on the effects of taking mdma (just a one time thing) whilst having this condition? I have read that having hyperthyroidism and taking it is a big no because of hyperthermia but I can’t find much on hypothyroidism. I’m thinking that is a good thing and that there aren’t may abnormal side affects. Obviously I know it is a drug and there are always things that can happ ..read more

My primary care doctor (he specializes in internal medicine) is the one who took me seriously and did the blood work that found the hypothyroidism. Should I continue going to him or go to an endocrinologist for a full work up? My mom goes to one and she sings her praises on how thorough her doctor is. My only worry is that my pcp is just going to put me on Levo (which he has, I go back for a follow up next week after labs Wednesday) and monitor my TSH and TS4. Those are the only ones he tested originally. I feel like there’s more wrong if that makes sense. The only change that I’ve noticed si ..read more

TSH 0.341 , was given methimazole 5mg 3x a day. Today the PA told me that if I want I can just take methimazole 2x a day. It felt a little off to be given the choice to reduce medication when I’ve only been on it for 1 week. Not even sure if I should be on the medication to begin with. Anyone have a similar lab result ? submitted by /u/Key-Challenge-7379 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Can Hashimoto’s cause lack of sex drive/desire?

29F & have Hashimoto’s, I think thyroid disease can cause issues with sex drive but it’s clearly not hypothyroidism yet. I’ve contemplated asexuality but don’t want to be quick to label, however, all my life I’ve never understood everyone’s rush for sex/intimacy during adolescence. I thought I was a late bloomer but I still feel this way & don’t care to masturbate as it doesn’t do anything for me. I’m single but the last time I was in a STR, sex was ??‍♀️. People always say maybe it’s your hormones or birth control but I’ve had an IUD since I was 23 & this feeling of indifference ..read more

Anybody ever had random symptoms spikes seemingly out of nowhere that lasts weeks/months then goes away? I was doing relatively well with my symptoms, feeling mostly normal. Taking my meds same time every day (I take it when I get up to pee a couple hours before I get up) And then recently i suddenly started getting really bad hair loss, like a LOT, palpitations, anxiety, trouble sleeping, constipation, and bad brain fog. I don't feel fatigue tho. The hair loss is probably the biggest one, I must have lost easily a quarter of my hair in about a month or so. Im a month away from getting my yea ..read more
