I'm Dyson. I've been gaming since 1979 in a variety of game systems, but most often playing Dungeons & Dragons. This is a general RPG blog, where I talked a lot about the games I've played and how I like to play them.

I’m still keeping on with the #Dungeon23 projects – here’s the fourth map (level 3 – the second map was the surface level) in its entirety with the full map and short-form stocking.
Dyson’s Delve II – Level 3 (300 dpi)
4-1 Gaol
There are a total of 16 wererats living in areas 4-1 through 4-8, including the prince and their leader. Two are always on guard here, watching for encroachment from above. They will try to raise the alarm, and the wererat in 4-2 will join in if there is a fight here. This whole section is crawling with rats and a few giant rats. There’s always d8-2 disease-ridden rats ..read more

The Arena Ruins at Ishud Vath (300 dpi promo)
When they aroused the ire of the gods, the mighty stone walls and cyclopean architecture of Ishud Vath proved to be no more than monuments to their hubris – the great mountain that the city was built around was thrown down upon them, raining the city in stone, ash, and lava.
The Arena Ruins at Ishud Vath (1200 dpi)
There are several interesting ruins remaining in accursed Ishud Vath, but here we are focused on the arena where gladiators anointed by the city’s warrior spirits engaged in ritual combats that served as entertainment and to appease the ..read more

I’m still trying to keep up with the two #Dungeon23 projects I started – here’s the fourth zone of the Tumíssan underworld (expanding from the small access hallway at the south end of Map 3 (area 3-16).
Tumíssan Underworld – Map 4 (300 dpi)
4-1 Access Tunnels
Uneven floors, pipes and weirdness. Lots of small spiders have settled here and there are webs everywhere. These passages are hot, with steam and hot pipesrunnign along the walls and ceilings and a humming / thrumming noise coming from the reactor area.
4-2 Maintenance Access
A single Ru’un guard does nothing unless attacked or the room ..read more

Bore Facility P44 (300 dpi promo, no commercial license)
Two ancient domes behind a crumbling softstone wall are known just as “Bore Four-Four” to the locals. Once part of some deep-bore experiments where scientists were measuring solar ejecta from deep underground, the domes have become the headquarters of a well equipped group of raiders / bandits. Both domes are made of a black-coated metal of some kind, with tinted crytalline panels on the upper dome to allow light it (the lower dome likely had these two, but the dome structure has been compromised and the panels are long gone.)

Zinik’s Stones (300 dpi promo, no commercial license)
Four massive standing stones were erected in a small but deep bowl in the rocky badlands of Dehnuk – accessed via a steep climb through a dark cave that is unmarked except for the evidence of the Circle of Dehnuk druids travelling to and from this holy space.
Zinik’s Stones (1200 dpi)
While ascending to the stones is fairly straightforward (and once you enter the cave, you can see the sky at the top of the climb to the stones), there are deeper parts of the cave, including a finished space cut from the stone by druidic magics and a chamber ..read more

Beneath the Claw of Sunsets – Map 3 (300 dpi promo, no commercial license)
Beneath the ruins of the Claw of Sunsets are a number of small dungeons and understructures. This particular dungeon is under the final portion of the ruins maps above – with entrances both via the stairway in the tower (to the “dungeon” levels) and via the cave downhill from the tower (to the “caverns” levels). This is also the only set of understructures that haven’t been infiltrated by massive vines/roots of the others.
Beneath the Claw of Sunsets – Map 3 (1200 dpi)
There are three levels to the dungeons and two to t ..read more

Ruins of the Claw of Sunsets – Map 3 (300 dpi promo, no commercial license)
The Claw of Sunsets was a serpentfolk palace complex that is now mostly collapsed and overgrown – including a number of immense thorny vines / roots up to ten feet wide at their biggest that seem intent on tearing down what remains.
This is the last of three 9.5″ x 12.75″ maps (at 4 squares per inch) in the set exploring the surface ruins, and each map is then paired with a smaller 9.5″ x 7.25″ map of a dungeon area beneath that section of the ruins (the dungeons beneath this section of the ruins is reached by a set of ..read more

Every month we go through our back catalogue of maps and the many amazing supporters of the blog over on Patreon vote on which two should be re-released under the free commercial use license. Our second release this month is a small dungeon that was procedurally generated while playing Four Against Darkness (a solo dungeon-crawling game).
Proving Grounds of the Mad Ogre Lord (300 dpi promo – no commercial license)
As indicated above, this was created procedurally while playing “Four Against Darkness”, a very cool solo dungeon-crawler that plays out a game in about 45 minutes once you know the ..read more

And, for our last new release of March, here’s one more of the DungeonMorph series of dungeon geomorphs – the second die from the Lairs set (the last of the three sets).
DungeonMorphs – Lairs Set 2
These are redraws of the Dungeonmorph designs originally drawn by myself, Glynn Seal, Billiam Babble, Alyssa, and Joe Wetzel. I’m doing these redraws one “die” at a time. The geomorphs have been assigned faces on the DungeonMorph Dice, and I’m translating them not by artist, but by die. So this is the second die of the lairs set. (There are a total of 24 dice in total – 8 in each set.)

Still practicing at illustrating – this involves a lot of studies and quite frankly drawing over sample photos and such… and much to my terror, I’ve had someone I’ve looked up to as an artist (and later an art director) asked me to do some illustrations for them.
Word is this guy makes a MEAN chili.
This wizard dared to enter the magical realm. He was not impressed.
Hey, just because the boss is a necromancer doesn’t mean he ever learned basic human anatomy ..read more
