First time Pulmicort user, got (unexpectedly) really depressed and anxious because of it

Hi y'all! I got a really bad allergic asthma outbreak some weeks ago, the worst one in my life, if I'm honest (will go to the pulmonologist in some weeks to check it out, probably prolonged exposition to a powder at my relatively new job while I had a cold). I had an excruciating cough that lasted weeks and wouldn't let me sleep properly. After testing for virus, bacteria, and whatnot and hearing my lungs with a stethoscope, my doctor said there was no illness causing my cough, therefore prescribed Pulmicort to help clear the asthma. Note, this is the first time I've needed asthma medication ..read more

First lung function test

So I took the lung test for the first time today, but my technician didnt really explain anything to me. For example I asked what the gas tank was for and she refused to tell me. I later had to look up that it makes you breathe a mixture of gases. For the normal breathing part. She told me to breathe normally, but then chastised me for not breathing fast enough, saying the machine would not work unless i breath in and out fast. So basically had me force shallow hyperventilate on the machine rather than normal slow deep breathing. Is that normal? Im wondering if my results are gonna be botched ..read more

Research on Hydrogen Inahalation for Asthma
Reddit » Asthma

New hydrogen therapy research is coming out all the time. Inhalation of pure hydrogen has shown to reduce epithelial apoptosis (tissue death) in ventilator-induced lung injury. (Source) It’s easy to imagine why hydrogen would be needed in ICUs. Currently much research on hydrogen-oxygen mixed gas inhalation is for chronic inflammatory respiratory conditions including asthma (S), pulmonary fibrosis (S), and acute symptoms of viral infections. Here you can find a research review on hydrogen-oxygen inhalation. submitted by /u/PowerRehabTech [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Worst asthma season ever? (Advice, please)

Looking for advice/what has worked for other asthma sufferers. I (33f) have had asthma since I was ~19/20. It feels like this season has been the absolute worst. Maybe it has to do with Flovent being discontinued, and my body adapting to a new drug. My doctor first prescribed me anoro ellipsa. Did not work at ALL. Honestly, upon doing some simple research (Google) I’m surprised the doctor even prescribed it as it is nothing like flovent. Anyways, now I’m on Advair and I’m wondering if anyone has had success with this medication as a replacement for Flovent? I’m sure a lot of you have also bee ..read more

Hi all, I’m looking for a face buff to protect from cold air. Problem is; polyester could irritate asthma, and wool is itchy for sensitive skin - it looks like they are all made from these materials :( Any suggestions? Cheers! submitted by /u/Serious_Toe9303 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Why tf do I suddenly have asthma at 18???? (Vent)

Why, I just don't understand. I never had it as a kid, in fact, I was a trumpet player for most of my adolescence and had better lungs than 95% of people that I knew. And suddenly, at 18, I get asthma?? It doesn't make any sense. I don't have a family history of asthma either, which makes it 50x more frustrating. And tbh, I don't even know why I am having symptoms. I thought I could have concomitant LPR, but after 3 weeks on pepcid and strict diet with no improvement at all in symptoms, that hope was quickly dashed. I thought it could have been from allergies too, since I have had those at le ..read more
