Daffodils and Egg Cups
Mockingbird Hill Cottage

Our first fully opened daffodil. Unfortunately, I’m sure it got pummeled by the torrential rain we had all day on Saturday. We got at least two inches, maybe more. My activities that day were accompanied by the sound of the sump pump turning off and on every 3 minutes. It’s still cold, but I think, as of today, there will be no more lows in the 20s. I’ve missed the sound of the peepers, as they hide when it’s too cold. Hopefully, they’ll come out to play in the next couple of days. We are winding down on our egg cup tour. It will end either on Wednesday or Friday. I love these so much. They ..read more

A Finished Puzzle and More Egg Cups
Mockingbird Hill Cottage

The low last night was 20 degrees. Yikes! And Wednesday night and Thursday were wind events. Okay. I’m over it. Let’s get back to spring, okay? First up, I finished my puzzle: This is from Cavallini – Vintage Italian Tarot Cards. They are striking and beautifully illustrated. It was a lot of fun to work on this one. The hardest part was the blue background, which I ignored until the end of the process. I thought I’d share the way I have to stand on a chair to get these puzzle photos. Egg cup tour continued: On the left: two morning glory egg cups that I found in Paris. I think they’re newish ..read more

It’s Cold Again and More Egg Cups

I don’t really need to elaborate on the fact that it’s been quite cold the last few days. Suffice to say that Don and I are feeling a bit blue. It’s going to rain later today. The peepers have stopped peeping, which is what they do when it gets too cold. Let’s warm it up, Mother Nature – I miss my little friends. Egg cups, anyone? On the left: a charming little egg cup from a line called Cottage Ware. Center: an egg cup with a built-in saucer. I found it at the flea market in Paris. It’s marked, but I haven’t figured out what the mark means. Right: This cup is from Devon in England and was a ..read more

Monday, And The Tour Continues
Mockingbird Hill Cottage

A sunny but much cooler Monday. The brambles, aka wild roses, are leafing out. I saw some forsythia budding on the library grounds – ours are in the woods so they take a bit longer to show themselves. Our daffodils are growing every day and several day lilies have emerged from the ground. We’re at that stage where I dare not mess with the leaf cover on the garden beds. I know better. I just leave it alone, occasionally taking a peek underneath to see what’s emerging. I’ll state the obvious: I can’t wait until I can start working outside again. Let’s hop back on the egg cup tour: We’re moving a ..read more

Saturday Egg Cups
Mockingbird Hill Cottage

It’s a sunny Saturday morning and we continue the egg cup tour. On the left, another chick emerging from an egg – this time in brownish palette. This one looks a little threatening! On the right, a different vision of a chick emerging from an egg. A sweet-faced yellow chick. This egg cup was made in Portugal and it’s fairly easy to find on eBay. These egg cups live on the little shelf hanging on the wall in the den, partly because the guy on the left is way too tall for the cubbies. Left: a gentleman egg cup. The head can be removed in order to eat a soft boiled egg in the cup. Originally pa ..read more

Puzzle completed. The Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris. I couldn’t resist working on it as it’s my favorite place in Paris.  This one took a while! I heard the peepers for the first time last night. Now, I know  it’s spring! I checked when they first appeared last year and it was March 23rd. It’s nine days earlier this year. The groundhog was right; it’s an early spring. It’s been warm here this week. Next week will be about 15 degrees colder. March is always a tease. More of the tour: On the left: a rooster pulling an egg cup in a pale pink and cream color palette. It’s rare to have ..read more

Bunnies, Bears, Chicks, and Roosters

We’re trying to cope with the time change – not very successfully – and the after effects of the wind event. Basically, we’re stuffed up and sleepy. Robins were sighted for the first time yesterday! And I just saw another pair on the front lawn. Hurrah! It’s officially spring! Here we go. On the left, my other Walking Ware egg cup. Love the green shoes and pink and white socks. Made by Carlton in England. Next – a chick emerging from an egg cup. This was a gift from my mom, who started looking for egg cups once she learned that I was collecting them. Another Fanny Farmer egg cup – you can see ..read more

As the torrential rains left us, high winds moved in. They went on all night long and they’ll last through the day. You know how much I hate them. They make me edgy and they mess with my sinuses. I’ve kept the blinds closed in the den because the cold  wind cuts right through this room. Don received an email purporting to be from me. It wasn’t, it came from some email address in another state. The usual spammy content saying I forgot to send him some pictures and then a very suspicious looking link. I’ve been getting this same sort of thing from a former high school classmate, but they do ..read more

More Cups and A Couple of Cozies

We continue our little tour. There is no rhyme or reason on what I choose to post. Rather, I open the doors to the egg cup cubby and pull out whatever calls to me. It’s a gray day today, so this is the best I can do. On the left, a bunny holding up an egg cup. Orange cup, bright-eyed bunny rabbit. Next, a Scottie holding up a cup. This is one of my favorites, I’ve not seen it available in a long, long time. In fact, other than the time I found this one, I’m not sure I’ve seen it on sale at all. Maybe once? I love the yellow color, the markings on the Scottie, and the blue collar. Next, two ra ..read more

The finished puzzle. I particularly loved this one. And so did Don as he has always loved this form of artistry. He purchased a couple of framed woodblock prints not long after we met. We still have them. This was a Cavallini puzzle. They are always quite beautiful and come in a cylinder, rather than a box. All of the pieces are contained in a cloth bag. I’ve done a few in the past. I just glanced at the other Cavallini puzzles available on Amazon and I think I’m going to have to do another one. By the way, these woodblocks are the artistry of Kawase Hasui. Sunny today – rare, lately! We’ve h ..read more
